Measures for control: Diseases of cucumbers in a greenhouse most often occur from weeds, so they should be destroyed throughout the entire area. It is necessary to cover all doors and vents in one layer of gauze and install glue traps.
After this, the infusion should be stirred and strained.
To know exactly what kind of virus you are dealing with, you need the help of an agronomist. You can use the Internet or books on vegetable growing, which show cucumber diseases in pictures and describe the characteristic signs of each type of infection and how to combat them.

Ways to combat bacteriosis in cucumber diseases
A reliable means to combat this disease is
- (one ampoule is diluted per 10 liter bucket of water) or treat with oxychome (2 tablets are mixed per 10 liters of water).
- For this purpose, pieces of plywood are painted white and yellow; they serve as an attraction for insects. In this case, the plywood is lubricated with rosin with the addition of honey or castor oil, and Vaseline.
- After this, add one spoon of liquid soap and 3 spoons of wood ash
- Root rot. The leaves, both of young plants and adults, begin to turn yellow from below. This is caused by significant temperature differences between day and night. The cause may be watering with too “cold” water. Weakened plants become sick first, then the infection begins to spread through the soil to other cucumbers. Preventive treatment (twice) with Previkur in the root area can prevent this unpleasant disease.
- It’s such a shame when cucumbers in a greenhouse turn yellow. What is the cause of this disaster and what can be done to save the situation and still get a good harvest?

- Bacterial diseases.
After some time they merge into larger ones. After this, the stems and leaves dry out and become covered with a black coating in the form of a cobweb.
Fighting types of viral mosaic
When planting a plant, only the nutritious part of the root should be buried and not the stem itself. During the summer, you should not add soil to the stem of the plant, and do not hill it up. If you break this rule, the plant will die.

- In this case, the temperature of the solution should be from 22* to 24*. After work, you should thoroughly ventilate the greenhouse (see How to ventilate a greenhouse if you can’t always be nearby), but do not allow the temperature to drop below 23* during the day, and below 18* at night. To further preserve the body at night, you can cover the plants with film, this will insulate and maintain the desired temperature.
- When they get on the surface, insects simply stick (you can read about other ways to get rid of ants and other insects in other sections). After this, the surface of the plywood is wiped and a new layer of the mixture is applied.

- Downy mildew (pernosporosis). This disease, common in melons and cucumbers, appears in greenhouses under conditions of high air and soil humidity, against the background of dense planting of seedlings. Affected fruits shrink and turn yellow. The first signs of damage may appear immediately with the onset of fruiting. In this case, the crop may be completely destroyed. How can you tell if your plants are sick? Acute-angled, dark green spots appear on the lower leaves. Preparations to combat pernosporosis - Bordeaux mixture or copper chloride (for the first treatment), "Bravo", "Avixil" (for the second treatment after 7 days).

Reasons for yellowing of cucumbers in a greenhouse
If the disease manifests itself, you need to prepare a medicine: add 1 teaspoon of copper sulfate to 0.5 liters of water, or use copper oxychloride, three tablespoons of honey, or wood ash. Mix all this thoroughly.
. One ampoule is diluted into 8 liters. water at room temperature. Next, mix thoroughly and pour into the sprayer, apply a fine spray (mesh).
This is a disease of cucumbers in greenhouses and open ground. It manifests itself in the formation of a white coating on the leaves. It spreads extremely quickly, and the leaves turn white (it looks like they were sprinkled with flour), after which they dry out, and the plant quickly dies.
Failure to comply with the technology of growing cucumbers in greenhouses
Spraying with clean water has proven itself to be excellent; washing the lower part of the leaf has a particularly good effect; whiteflies accumulate especially here. After washing the leaves, you should loosen the soil by 2 cm or add the following components: sawdust, peat, or add humus in a 2 cm layer. 1-2 liters per 1m2 Plants are overloaded with ovaries. In a greenhouse, cucumbers and peppers develop very quickly. But, in order to prevent the fruits from turning yellow, you should not leave more than 25-30 ovaries for further development. By removing new shoots in a timely manner, delays in the development and formation of greens can be prevented. If this rule is not followed, the result may be underdeveloped, small and yellow fruits.
Why do the fruits and leaves of cucumbers turn yellow? Experts identify several of the most common reasons.
Proper watering of plants with warm, settled water: you need to pour water into the furrows, and not under the root of the plant.
Cucumber diseases spread very quickly in high humidity. Greenhouse plants suffer the most from this virus.
The most common fungal disease of cucumbers is powdery mildew. The reason for its appearance on the leaves is sudden changes in temperature, excess nitrogen in the soil or lack of potassium. Sick plants are covered with white powder, lag behind in growth and gradually dry out.
Damage to plants by various diseases or pests
Measures to combat:
After this, we rake the soil from the plant stem to the root and treat the stem with the prepared mixture using a brush, we carry out the treatment from the root and to a height of 12 cm.
Spraying should be carried out at the first manifestations of the disease, but it is better to treat before flowering, this will be prevention, which gives a good result. The first spraying can be carried out when 7-10 normal leaves appear.
Cucumbers should not be planted in the same area of soil; a large number of pathogens of this disease will then accumulate at the planting site. Their rapid spread occurs as a result of lower temperatures and when watering with cold water. The disease can also spread from weeds and flowers.
Attention: Never apply fresh sawdust. When applied in this way, they take calcium from the soil and deplete it. This product should be used when it has been in use for one year.
, determine by the number of aphids. Spraying should be carried out within a week.
The fertilization process was insufficient. This happens when hybrid varieties that require artificial pollination are used in the greenhouse.
Cucumber is a very moisture-loving plant (like pepper), so you should not neglect the rules of watering this vegetable. These rules are simple: to prevent the cucumbers from starting to get sick and turn yellow, the water for watering should not be cold (watering from a hose is not suitable). Water should be settled.
Spraying cucumbers against pests.
Angular leaf spot causes the death of cucumbers in a short time and is considered the most dangerous disease, as it is quickly transmitted from one plant to another. The infection is spread by wind, water droplets, pests and contaminated seeds. The disease is characterized by the appearance of brown spots on leaves and fruits, which dry out the tissue over several days. The bacterium multiplies most quickly in warm, humid weather.
Other reasons:
Downy mildew or peronosporiasis occurs as a result of high humidity, when watering with cold water, or a sharp change in temperature. First, brown spots appear on the leaves, which dry out after a few days. Fungal spores remain on the back of the leaves. They are carried by wind and pests to neighboring areas. The disease occurs from plant debris or seeds infected with the mycelium of the fungus. The disease is provoked by high humidity and watering with cold water, as well as sudden changes in day and night temperatures. It appears during the fruiting period.
Seeds should be disinfected before planting. Disinfect the greenhouse. Conduct soil disinfection.
Crushed charcoal can also be applied to the areas where the disease manifests itself. chalk, ash and dry well. When watering, try not to spray too much, water only the soil and make sure that the soil does not cover the infected areas.
Process cucumbers both in a greenhouse and in open ground; you should choose warm and calm weather. This work is best done in the morning.

Diseases of cucumbers in a greenhouse: causes and methods of treatment
Cucumber diseases in a greenhouse can be caused by downy mildew. It has become like an epidemic in recent years. The plant can get sick at any stage of development.
melon aphid
You can try the second option.
Cucumbers, like peppers, also turn yellow naturally when they reach their ripeness, but only green cucumber fruits are mainly used for food.
During the fruiting period, watering should be increased.
Compliance with crop rotation: return cucumbers to their place only four years after melons.
When affected by vascular bacteriosis, the fruits lose their taste and commercial qualities. They are unsuitable for food as they turn wooden. The infection spreads through contaminated seeds and plant debris.
- Dangerous fungal diseases of cucumbers should also include white rot, olive spot, and root rot.
- As we see cucumber diseases in a greenhouse, as a rule, they arise from a sharp temperature change. Therefore, make the construction of the room correctly (see Greenhouse designs for cucumbers and stages of cultivation), do not allow gaps and poor joints of elements.
- Use the water temperature for irrigation at 24-25 degrees, do this in the morning. Dead plants should be dug up along with the soil and burned. Pour the remaining hole with copper sulfate, use the solution: for 10 liters of water, add 2 tablespoons of copper sulfate.
- You can fight this disease with the more effective remedy “Zaslon”; three caps of it should be diluted in 1 liter of water.
- Measures to combat:
- It affects diseases of cucumber seedlings in a greenhouse. The infection persists for a long time, about 6-7 years.
Make a solution of soap and ash:This list of reasons why cucumbers turn yellow in your greenhouse will help you choose the best way to preserve your harvest. In cool weather, plants are watered in the daytime, and on sunny, warm days - in the morning watch. If the days are hot, then in the mornings only refreshing watering is done, and in the evenings - normal. The depth of the moistened soil should be sufficient for the root system of cucumber plants to develop deeply and not superficially.
In a greenhouse, the appearance of bacterial diseases is directly related to the formation of condensation. To avoid large amounts of dripping moisture during periods of temperature fluctuations, it is necessary to use room heating at night.
Viral diseases of cucumbers are characterized by a change in leaf color. Spots appear on it that resemble a mosaic, and the leaf blade itself curls and wrinkles. All viral diseases are seed-borne or pest-borne. Before planting, it is recommended to warm up the seed at a temperature of +70 degrees for three days.
- The main signs of bacterial wilt (caused by Erwinia tracheiphila) are:
- When growing cucumbers in a greenhouse, diseases can in many cases be prevented if the room is disinfected before planting.
- This is also a disease of cucumbers in the greenhouse, which manifests itself in the form of gray spots of the mucous structure. This is especially noticeable in the leaf axils of the branches. The spread of the disease occurs when the night temperature decreases, cold water is used for irrigation, planting is dense and the greenhouse is poorly ventilated.
- The diseases of cucumbers in greenhouses are complemented by this disease. It appears when watering cucumbers with cold water using the rain method, with high humidity and frequent temperature changes day and night.
At the first appearance of a white coating on plants, they should immediately be treated with mullein solution: you need to take
stir 2 cups of ash in 10 liters of hot water,
Regularity of watering is crucial: you only have to miss a few times and skip watering the plants, and this will immediately affect the quality of future fruits. So, lack of moisture entails yellowing of the plant itself and the new ovary of cucumbers.
Greenhouse whitefly
And if it was not possible to protect the plants from infection? How to treat cucumbers against diseases in order to preserve the harvest? Copper-containing preparations will help: “Kuproksat”, Bordeaux mixture. Treatment must be carried out twice, with an interval of 10-12 days.
Cucumber mosaic appears 25-30 days after planting on young leaves. The leaf becomes spotted with yellowing and becomes deformed. If you do not start fighting the disease, then within a few days the fruits will become infected. The carrier of cucumber mosaic is aphid.
sharp wilting of the plant;
Have a good harvest.
When plants are densely planted, a very large number of male flowers appear. One leaf can contain up to 15 barren flowers. Which quickly fade and attack healthy stems.
It can also occur during a draft. All these factors lead to weakening of plants. If the roof and soil are not properly disinfected, pathogens remain.

In a closed greenhouse, many diseases can develop. This can be caused by planting the same crops in a certain place for a long time, or by improper disinfection of the premises. We want to talk about some diseases of cucumbers grown in greenhouses. There is a lot of printed text and videos on this topic on the Internet; we have chosen the most common diseases and want to offer proven methods of treating them.
Yellow spots indicate a lack of potassium, and light green spots indicate a deficiency of magnesium. This means that the cucumbers need to be fed.The best way to combat viral mosaic is prevention.White mosaic on cucumbers appears in the form of white and yellow star spots. Often the entire leaf turns white, and the fruits are painted with white stripes. A plant can be infected with the white mosaic virus only by contact and seeds. the appearance of a white sticky mass (similar to saliva) that is released from the stem;
How to deal with yellowing leaves of cucumbers? Formation of gray mold The disease manifests itself in the form of small brown sores appearing on the plant and at the same time liquid is released. These sores can cover the entire fruit, then it is not suitable for consumption. The disease can destroy the entire crop in 6-8 days.
1 liter of liquid mullein
Oily spots, usually green, begin to appear on the leaves. Then they increase duringleave for a dayThis disease leads to damage to shoots, flowers, ovary and the underside of the leaf. Causes wrinkling and curling. As a rule, damage occurs in the second part of summer. This disease develops quite quickly. Weather conditions are often the reason why cucumbers turn yellow. Cold, wet weather caused by late frosts can damage plants. If rotting of the ovaries occurs, you need to urgently remove the already faded flowers and treat the cut with potassium permanganate (solution). To prevent further bacteriosis, spraying is carried out with either 1% Bordeaux mixture or 0.4% copper oxychloride. It is worth noting that peppers can also turn yellow and lose leaves if they are exposed to temperature conditions up to +120°C for a long time.
Soak the seeds before planting in disinfectants or warm them at a temperature of +70 degrees.
Powdery mildew
Green mosaic can be confused with an ordinary type of fungal virus, but it only affects young leaves. Blister-like growths, mosaic yellowing, and wrinkling appear on them. Plants grow poorly, the ovary dries and crumbles.
Leaf spotting and wilting.
1. After emergence of shoots in the 3-4 leaf phase, cucumbers need to be treated with the following composition: Add 30 drops of iodine, 20 g of laundry soap and 1 liter of milk to a bucket of water. Spraying with this composition can be carried out approximately every 10 days.
Control measures: do not plant plants too densely. If there is a large amount of barren flowers, it should be removed and the vacant areas should be sprinkled with charcoal or wood ash.
- 1 spoon of urea.
- from 8 to 10 days
- Afterwards, stir and strain.
- The damage is yellowish in color first, followed by dark green. Within a few days, the entire lower part of the leaf, flowers and leaves becomes infected.
- The composition of the soil is critical. Lack of nitrogen and poor soil are a common reason why plant development is disrupted. It is important to ensure that there is no overdose in the amount of fertilizer, which, in turn, leads to oppression and yellowing of seedlings and their fruits. Before planting cucumber seedlings and after the harvest is harvested, manure must be applied to the soil. And during the growing season, fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizers containing phosphorus, fluorine and potassium, and liquid mullein is considered mandatory.
- Destroy all plant debris in the garden after harvesting.
The most successful fight against disease is the absence of disease. Preventive measures will help achieve this result. What should I do?
The virus persists on the remains of the stem until next year. If signs of bacterial wilt are noticed, then all dry stems must be burned. Planting melons and melons in this area is contraindicated for 5-6 years. Seeds collected from such plants are also carriers of the disease.
2. In the evening, soak a loaf of bread in a bucket of water, in the morning knead the bread, add a small bottle of iodine and sprinkle the cucumbers, 1 liter. liquid per bucket of water (store the rest in bottles in the basement). This solution can be treated once every two weeks until the fall, and the cucumbers and tops will remain green. Do not water when a disease is detected, but immediately check all the plants. When feeding and watering, do not direct water onto the plants themselves. Control measures:
Mix the solution thoroughly . The plant appears as if it has been burned, its leaves turn brown. After this you can spray.
Fungal diseases:
Control aphids and other insect pests.
Brown spot (olive)
Observe crop rotation.
The causative agent of wet rot is the bacterium Pseudomonas burgeri Pot. The source of infection is untreated infected seeds. Often the disease proceeds slowly and begins to progress only with a decrease in air temperature. The owners complain about a bad variety or freshly harvested seeds, because the shortfall in yield due to this disease can be as much as 40%.
3. 2 l. whey per bucket of water and 150 grams of sugar. After these treatments, the ovary forms again on both peppers and cucumbers. They bear fruit.
The following mixture helps with illness:
At the first manifestations of the disease, you should stop watering the plants for 6 days, and on warm days, ventilate the greenhouse premises. To do this, you need to fully open all doors and windows, and if there is film on the beds, remove it. When the temperature is cool, everything should be closed; this is done to raise the temperature in the greenhouse to 25* during the daytime and to 23* at night.Spray all plants in warm weather.
Root rot
Then rapid drying occurs, for this it is enough
Treatment with a solution of karbofos also gives a positive effect. Add 2 tablespoons of karbofos to warm water (30*). This solution should be sprayed on the air inside the greenhouse, paths, roof, ground and a little on the plants themselves.
Measures to combat. Weeding and destroying all weeds on the site; this disease can only spread from weeds.
- Powdery mildew. If light spots resembling a white coating are found on the leaves, gradually increasing in size, then this is a sign of infection. The leaf dries and turns yellow. How to deal with this trouble? If you do not worry about measures to destroy powdery mildew, it will certainly make itself felt next season. Fungicide preparations “Topsin”, “Bayleton”, “Karatan” will help.Disinfect consumables.
- Adhere to regular watering with warm water.
- The first signs of wet rot:4. Take 0.7 l. Pour a jar of onion peel into a 10 liter bucket and bring to a boil, remove, close with a lid and leave for 12-14 hours. Strain, squeeze out the husks and let sit. For 2 liters of infusion - 8 liters of water. It is good (amply) to spray all the leaves on top and from the underside, as well as spray and shed the soil.
- 1 cup wood ash
- Diseases of greenhouse cucumbers can also include root rot. They spread extremely quickly in soil where cucumbers were already growing. The disease can also appear when watering with cold water and a significant decrease in soil temperature.
- Leaf treatment should be carried out in both the lower and upper parts.
- 2-3 days
Gray rot
The treatment should be carried out in good sunny weather with the doors and windows closed in the greenhouse. The air becomes quite suffocating, the aphids die. If you want to use karbofos to treat plants, you should add 1 tablespoon of the drug per 10 liters of warm water.

Cucumbers are a vegetable crop that is very demanding in terms of temperature and watering, and is easily affected by fungal and viral diseases. They, in turn, shorten the growing season and affect the quantity and quality of the harvest. Preventive treatment of cucumbers against diseases, timely diagnosis and treatment will help avoid losses.
You need to start by identifying the symptoms that correspond to a specific disease. Then choose the most effective drug and carry out the treatment. In addition to the more or less toxic compounds produced by the chemical industry, there are many folk remedies for treating cucumbers. Let's get acquainted with the main cultural diseases and ways to combat them.
Powdery mildew
Signs
The disease most often develops in cloudy, cool weather. The first signs are white spots on the leaves that resemble flour. Over time, their number increases and they merge, affecting the entire leaf. Ultimately, the leaves dry out and the vines stop growing and bearing fruit.
Powdery mildew affects plants that receive an excess of nitrogen and experience a moisture deficiency. The development of the disease can be prevented by eliminating favorable conditions. Correct crop rotation and destruction of plant residues help prevent powdery mildew.
Prevention and treatment
Treatment of cucumber shoots with Topaz is effective at the initial stage of the disease. This systemic fungicide is also used for prevention at the beginning of the growing season. It has the following advantages:
- quickly absorbed by plants, so there is no risk of being washed off;
- has a high speed and duration of action: it affects the pathogen within 2-3 hours and retains the therapeutic effect for 2-2.5 weeks;
- well tolerated by most garden crops;
- small consumption rates.
Topaz is used in the treatment of other diseases: fruit and gray rot, rust, purple spot, etc.
To prepare the working solution, the contents of the ampoule (2 ml) are dissolved in 10 liters of water. How much to spend depends on the phase of plant development and the degree of disease damage. One ampoule is enough to process 1 hundred square meters on average.
Downy mildew
Signs
The damage to the plant by peronosporosis (downy mildew) is indicated by the appearance of a large number of light yellow spots that have an oily surface. A plaque forms on the back side of the leaf plate. Then the leaves turn yellow, acquire a brown tint and dry out. Buds and flowers turn black and fall off.
Like other fungal diseases, downy mildew most often appears after rain. It can be provoked by watering cucumber beds with cold water. The disease can destroy a bush in a week. The disease spreads very quickly in the greenhouse.
Prevention and treatment
Heat treatment of seedling trays is carried out. Cucumber seeds must be pickled (you can use Epin), and planting is carried out in disinfected soil. If not allowed:
- sudden changes in temperature;
- waterlogging of the air and moisture getting on the leaves;
- thickening plantings
- and water the cucumbers with warm water, the risk of developing downy mildew will be minimized.
Fungicides, for example, Ridomil, have a good preventive and therapeutic effect. The cucumbers and soil are treated with a soap-soda solution. For treatment, the procedure is repeated several times with an interval of 7 days. Before spraying, be sure to remove and burn damaged leaves and shoots, otherwise the effect of using the drugs will be reduced to zero.
Gray rot
Signs
The infection affects all parts of the plant: roots, leaves, stems, flowers, fruits become covered with brown spots with a gray coating containing spores. The wind carries them to neighboring bushes and beds. The danger of gray rot is that it quickly spreads among vegetables, berries, and garden plants.
Treatment
In addition to observing crop rotation and basic rules for caring for cucumbers, in order to avoid gray rot, you need to spray with fungicides (Fitosporin, 1% solution of Bordeaux mixture), a solution prepared from 1 cup of ash, 1 cup of chalk, 1 tsp. copper sulfate and 10 liters of water.
Fusarium
Signs
The disease is caused by fungi that infect the entire plant. The leaves begin to wither. The bush may die if measures are not taken. The danger of fusarium is that it cannot be immediately diagnosed. Seeds or seedlings may become infected. The disease appears during flowering and fruiting. The sooner it is detected, the less harm it can cause.
It is possible to determine that a cucumber bush has contracted Fusarium blight by looking at the cross section. If the vessels of the leaf or stem are affected, they become brown in color. As soon as the first signs of wilting appear, such a diagnosis is carried out. After this, treatment begins immediately.
Prevention and treatment
They start by preparing the seeds. Gardeners speak well of Fundazol and Previkur. Two days before planting seedlings, the soil is treated with biological products. Afterwards you need to spray the seedlings:
- biological products Trichodermin, Baktofit, Trichofit are suitable;
- to increase immunity, seeds and seedlings are treated with Humisol;
- at the initial stage of the disease, the drugs Quadris, Gymnast, Acrobat are used.
A solution of whey with the addition of copper sulfate also helps (for 10 liters of water, 4 liters of whey and 1.5 tsp of copper sulfate).
Pests of cucumbers and their control
Pests are often the reason why cucumber leaves turn yellow, become spotted and dry out. Most often the crop is affected by aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Pests can become carriers of dangerous diseases of vegetable crops.
Aphids and mites settle on the underside of the leaf. They pierce the tissues of the plant and feed on its juices, as a result of which the described symptoms appear. A barely noticeable cobweb indicates that cucumber bushes are infested with mites. The insects are very small in size: aphids - up to 2 mm, mites - 0.5 mm. The appearance of a whitefly can be recognized by dark spots on the leaves: it secretes sugary substances on which sooty fungi settle.
You can prevent the appearance of pests if you destroy weeds in a timely manner and disinfect the soil in the spring, before sowing seeds or planting seedlings. Pest larvae overwinter in plant debris.
To prevent and control insects, cucumbers need to be treated several times with insecticides: Fufanon, Intavir (Inta-Vir), Aktara, Bi-58. It has been established that pests can become addicted to the active substance, so it is advisable to change the preparations for repeated treatments.
Traditional methods
Homemade fungicides
Industrially produced fungicides can be dangerous to plants, insects, animals and humans. The use of pharmaceutical drugs and “home” remedies is becoming increasingly popular.
Folk remedies
How to treat cucumbers against diseases:
- mullein infusion (1 kg per 3 liters of water, soak for 3 days, strain, add another 3 liters of water);
- sour milk (mix with water 1:1);
- baking soda with laundry soap (50 g diluted in 10 liters of warm water).
Treatment is carried out at least 2-3 times with an interval of 1 week.
Furacilin
Gardeners share their experience of preventive and therapeutic spraying with furatsilin. An inexpensive drug that is used to gargle and treat wounds will help cope with powdery mildew. To do this, cucumbers need to be treated with a solution prepared from 10 tablets and 2 liters of hot water (tablets do not dissolve well in cold water). For prevention, you can take 10 liters of water for this number of tablets.
The fight against diseases and pests of cucumbers is one of the main concerns of summer residents who practice growing this vegetable on their own plot. Our material today is devoted precisely to this topic.
More than 70% of summer residents who garden on land plots grow cucumbers and other popular crops. Site selection, seed preparation, soil fertilization and long-term care are just a small list of the concerns that are necessary to obtain good results at the end of the season. But all of them can be crossed out at one moment, and the cucumber bushes in the garden, on a net in the open ground or on a trellis in a greenhouse will not have the long-awaited fruits or their quality will be very spoiled. This may be the case if the crop is attacked by pests, or if it is infected with certain diseases. Naturally, there is very little desire to lose the harvest, especially at the moment when the cucumbers began to bloom and showed the ovary. Therefore, you should take extreme measures and fight for your rights to tasty and aromatic fruits that are needed for fresh salads or canning.
Prevention of diseases and pests
Even at the moment when you are just thinking about planting this crop at your dacha this season, you must simultaneously take preventive measures that will not only help save cucumbers from pests and diseases, but can also prevent them. A small list of requirements, on which you will not spend much time, will save not only the plants and the quantity of the harvest, but also its quality, especially if you are dealing with varietal crops.
- Only high-quality seeds that have been prepared and disinfected should be planted in the ground.
- Prepared seeds should be sown only in well-warmed soil. The minimum temperature at a depth of 8-10 cm should be at least +12+14°C.
- It is customary to plant cucumbers only in high-quality soil, clean, loose, fertilized, and fertile.
- In order for the bushes to suffer less from various diseases, it is necessary to choose varieties that are resistant to them.
- It is imperative to remove all plant residues from the garden bed, regardless of what crop they belong to. It would be most correct to burn them outside the territory of the summer cottage.
- Don’t forget about weeding, because weeds not only interfere with the growth and ripening of cucumbers, but are also carriers of many infections.
- You should be very careful with planting and care, and observe crop rotation.
- It is imperative to destroy diseased plants in and around the garden bed as much as possible, as well as catch and destroy pests that just appear in the planting area.
- Proper soil fertilization, application rates and frequency, as well as soil disinfection if cucumbers are grown in a greenhouse are also important.
Remember, it is much easier to carry out timely prevention and thereby preserve the harvest than to constantly treat plants and waste time trying to get rid of pests in vain.

Fighting cucumber diseases
Powdery mildew
This is the most common disease, not only of cucumbers, but also of many other crops. It affects the deciduous part of the plant, a little less often signs can be found on the stems and petioles, and even less often on the fruits. The cucumber appears on the top of the leaf as a small white spot, which gradually covers the entire leaf, and then the entire plant. Over time, whole lashes fall off from the common bush, which are already colored brown. The plant gradually dies, and if it continues to grow in a diseased state, the quality of the fruits noticeably decreases and the quantity decreases.
This disease is promoted by high humidity and constant temperature changes, dense planting, and weeds inside the bed. It also develops well when watered with cold water, due to winds and drafts, and also if summer residents choose the same place for annual planting. The disease remains in the soil, on weeds, plantain, and also on affected plants left in the garden bed during the winter.
Fighting the disease
There are many ways to combat this cultural disease:
- It is necessary to plant only strong and resistant varieties and hybrids;
- At the first signs of the disease, the affected parts of the plant are torn off and disinfected or burned;
- If the bush continues to hurt, it is treated with ground sulfur powder (about 25-30 g per 10 m2 of planting) or colloidal sulfur solution (0.3% sulfur, 25-30 g per bucket of water);
- Spraying with mullein is also considered effective;
- To prevent the disease from affecting the crop in the next season, it is necessary to get rid of plant debris and carry out deep digging of the soil of the bed;
- If powdery mildew has just been noticed on cucumbers, it is necessary to increase the potassium fertilizing rates;
- If the disease continues to spread and endanger the entire garden bed, you can use toxic chemicals - Topaz or Oksikhom, strictly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Downy mildew (downy mildew)
This disease easily destroys entire cucumber fields if you do not pay attention and help the crop in time. Downy mildew manifests itself as yellow-green spots with a light green coating, which immediately attack the upper parts of the leaf. The spots can be of various shapes; they quickly spread to all plants, forming a purple coating on the lower part of the leaves. Most often, the disease appears in mid-July (in greenhouses and in June) and quickly affects not one plant, but also all neighboring plantings.
Downy mildew of cucumbers spreads due to condensation, high environmental humidity, temperature changes at night and day, due to cold watering, morning cold dew and fog. It spreads very quickly, as it is even carried by the wind.
Fight against peronosporosis
- Treatment of seeds before planting, heating and disinfection with a solution of potassium permanganate;
- Planting occurs only in warm and healthy soil; waterlogging is not allowed. Watering young plants only with heated water, mandatory fertilizing at all stages of crop cultivation;
- If the disease is already present in the garden, the plants are treated with a milk solution (1:9 with the addition of 10 drops of iodine for every 10 liters), also with a urea solution (no more than 1 g per 1 liter of water);
- You can also treat with a solution of Bordeaux mixture;
- If the disease has been noticed in the garden bed, we recommend not planting cucumbers in this area for about five years;
- If you cannot cope with downy mildew, we recommend treating the cucumber bushes with chemicals.
White rot
This disease quickly spreads throughout the plant, covering the foliage, stems, tendrils, and even flowering and ovary. All parts of the plant are covered with a kind of mucus and plaque.
White rot thrives in greenhouses where there is high air humidity, air stagnation, high density of plantings, and temperature changes. Remember that pathogens remain in the soil for a long time.
Fighting the disease
- First of all, they level the agricultural technology to the proper level, also balance the humidity and temperature, make the plantings more sparse and weed-free in the garden bed;
- Diseased parts of plants are carefully cut off and burned outside the dacha, and the wounds after cutting are powdered with lime or ash;
- The greenhouse or soil near the bed is completely disinfected, and the plants are also fed (2 g of copper sulfate and 10 g of urea per bucket of water, spraying consumption - 1 liter per 10 m2).
Root rot
Root rot can affect seedlings and even adult plants, regardless of where they are planted. Part of the root of the bush dies off, the entire root system and the neck of the plant begin to get sick, the stem becomes thin, and the plant slowly dies. Root rot “burns” the root, and the stem becomes rotten.
The disease spreads due to improper sowing (poor quality seeds, cold soil), cold watering, heavy soil, high humidity, and temperature fluctuations. The infection can remain for a long time in the soil of the garden bed and on the remains of diseased cucumber bushes.
Fighting the disease
- Water only with warm water, not at the root;
- Treating the lower part of the bush, cleared of soil, with chalk or fresh sawdust, sand or peat;
- Normalization of environmental temperature and humidity, timely removal of weeds;
- If the plant is sick, its affected parts should be removed from the garden bed. If the bush begins to wither, it should be completely removed from the territory of the dacha;
- The cuttings should be powdered, the soil should be disinfected, watering should be moderate for a while, the bed should be dusted (at any planting site) with dry bleach (about 150-200 g for each square meter of the bed, and be sure to cover it with a rake);
- After detecting the disease and taking measures - removing diseased plants from the garden and disinfecting the soil - all boxes, trellises, guy ropes, tools, etc. should be washed with powder.
Anthracnose
The disease manifests itself as large round yellow-brown spots on the cotyledons and foliage of the plant; due to increased humidity, the plant becomes covered with a pink coating. The plaque spreads throughout the plant, concentrates in some places, forms small sores and kills the cucumber bushes. They quickly darken and the fruits wrinkle. The severity of the disease increases with increased humidity, dew and rain; anthracnose quickly spreads to the root system and destroys the plant. After this, the infection can be transmitted through plant debris and seeds.
Fighting the disease
- It is required to sow only healthy seeds and only in well-prepared, heated soil;
- Every year, properly cultivate the soil, destroy plant residues and weeds, and correctly change crops;
- If you discover a disease, we advise you to immediately treat the plants with Bordeaux mixture (4-5 days before harvest, every week) or a suspension of bleach (35-40 g per bucket of water, 20 days before harvest, every 10 days) ).
Cladosporiosis (olive spot)
This disease affects cucumber fruits and only in rare cases the stem and foliage parts. They become covered with small but numerous watery spots that grow and become hard. At this moment, the skin cracks, the fruit becomes crooked, the leaves become deformed, and the ovaries die.
Olive spot spreads through the air and can infect crops during rain or when watering.
Fighting olive spot
- Try to choose disease-resistant varieties for planting;
- If the cucumber is grown in a greenhouse, reduce the ambient humidity;
- Treat plants with Bordeaux mixture, its 15% solution, as a preventive measure;
- Be sure to fertilize with potassium sulfate.
Cucumber pest control
melon aphid
Finding melon aphids on cucumbers is not a problem. Small insects that destroy everything in their path are located from the bottom of the leaf and attack flowers, ovaries and fruits. During the period of its active activity and reproduction, leaves fall from the plant, flowers fade, and the yield decreases sharply. If during the period of aphid attack there is wet weather, the plants often cannot be saved at all.
Fighting melon aphids
- It is necessary to promptly remove plant debris from the site and try to destroy weeds;
- It is also necessary to observe crop rotation, dig up the soil in the fall, and disinfect the soil;
- If aphids have already appeared on the plants, spray with fermented grass (leave 1 kg of grass all day in a bucket of water), or spray with an ash solution (200 g of ash and 50 g of planed soap per 10 liters of water);
- Substantial colonies of melon aphids are removed from cucumbers using Inta-Vir according to the instructions.
Spider mite
Spider mites live on the underside of cucumber leaves and feed on its greens. A small red-green sucking insect is very dangerous for cucumber bushes, especially in greenhouses. By damaging the plant and entwining leaves with small cobwebs, the mite destroys entire beds, especially in hot weather, when the number of individuals increases significantly.
Fighting spider mites
- The first thing you need to remember is proper soil moisture and, if over-moistened soil is favorable for many diseases or pests, then for spider mites the element is over-dried;
- It is imperative to clean the soil in greenhouses and disinfect it;
- An infusion of garlic or onion (200 g of peel per 10 liters of water) and periodic spraying, 4-5 times throughout the season, cope quite well with tick colonies;
- Also, you should constantly monitor the cleanliness of the bed, the ambient temperature (if the cucumber is grown in a greenhouse);
- To destroy spider mites on cucumber bushes in a natural way, you can plant dill nearby, the flowering of which attracts ladybugs - the enemies of many plant pests.
Ants
On the one hand, ants are useful for the dacha area, but on the other hand, they dig many underground passages, besiege some plants, and also bring aphids to the plants.
Insect control
- You can fight ants using special traps - bottles with sweet syrup;
- It is necessary to loosen the soil in cucumber beds more often;
- If you notice ant nests, they are dug up and filled with kerosene;
- You can remove ants by dusting the soil with slaked lime or ash, as well as pouring boiling water over their nests.
Slugs
The main activity of slugs occurs at night, when they, not afraid of daylight, devour cucumber greens and spoil the fruits by eating the pulp. Also, slugs spoil the quality of the crop with traces of mucus and dark droppings.
Fighting slugs
- You can fight slugs in cucumber plantings by pollinating the soil with ash, slaked lime, and constantly digging up the soil;
- It is imperative to ensure the cleanliness of the area and the removal of plant debris;
- A good method for fighting slugs is to lay out special shelters around the area, under which the slugs will gather in the morning (burdocks, rags, boards, pieces of cardboard). You can also always treat the beds with Metaldehyde.
Whitefly
A fertile insect of very small size that moves quickly through the air, but loves to produce larvae on the lower part of cucumber leaves. The larvae are voracious and constantly suck plant sap, thereby causing the development of sooty fungus on the foliage and inhibiting the plants. It is very difficult to fight whiteflies, especially in greenhouses.
Pest control
- It is difficult to remove whiteflies due to their high fertility, but the methods of controlling them are quite simple. They involve spraying or washing off insect larvae from the leaves of the plant. Next, you should slightly loosen the soil in the garden bed and sprinkle it with humus or peat;
- The fight against whiteflies is also possible with the help of tobacco, which is planted along the perimeter of the cucumber bed. When whiteflies collect on a plant, it is treated with Inta-Vir.
Spring has come, it's time to plant vegetable gardens so that you can enjoy fresh herbs and vegetables in summer and fall. Some have even already begun to grow the most unpretentious plants in greenhouses or in their home on a window or balcony.
Today we will talk about cucumbers and how to protect them from all kinds of pests and plant diseases. We are for a healthy lifestyle and healthy food, so we will not offer chemical compounds for processing cucumbers. They may be effective, and you can make good money from their advertising, but health is more expensive.
Treatment of cucumbers
- Only sprouted cucumbers that do not yet have flowers or ovaries require processing. We suggest you spray them with a composition made from natural ingredients every ten days. In a bucket of water, dilute 20 grams of laundry soap, 1 liter of milk and 30 drops of iodine. Prevention is always better than cure.
- It happens that cucumbers have just begun to appear, green, beautiful, crispy, but the tops are already turning yellow. There is a way out of the situation. Soak 300 grams of bread in a bucket of water, add half a bottle of iodine, and treat the plants with this mixture. This treatment procedure can be carried out every two weeks.
- For those who live in a village, keep cows, or can easily get natural dairy products, it will not be difficult to make a solution for processing vegetables from whey. Dissolve 2 liters of whey and 150 grams of sugar in a bucket of water. After treatment with this solution, cucumbers will produce more fruit.
- For city dwellers, a recipe for a solution made from onion peels is suitable. It is inexpensive and easy to use. Boil half a kilogram of husk in 5 liters of water. Leave it to sit overnight. Then dilute with water in a ratio of 1: 4. It is recommended not only to spray the solution, but also to water the cucumbers.
- If the cucumbers begin to wither right on the plant, treat them with a solution of sugar-free whey in a ratio of 1:5.
- Processing cucumbers important. But don’t forget about regular watering. Especially if you live in a climate that is too warm or there has been no natural precipitation for a long time. While the cucumbers are just sprouting, water them every other day. Later you can do it once every three days.
It often happens that cucumber plants grown with such difficulty die in their prime from diseases or pests. Not everyone likes to use chemicals, because they want cucumbers without any pesticides, which are already abundant in store-bought vegetables and fruits. Fortunately, there are folk remedies. Of course, not all of them can compete with chemicals in effectiveness, but if the disease or pests are detected in time, then grandma’s secrets are quite effective.
Powdery mildew
The fact that this infection has settled on cucumbers can be recognized by the powdery coating on the leaves. If the disease is started, the leaves will turn red and then yellow, and the crop will die. The disease is caused by fungal spores that have overwintered in the soil. The trigger for the onset of the disease is damp, cool weather or watering with cold water.
The following folk remedies will help cope with the scourge:
- whey diluted in a ratio of 1:10, to which you can add 10 g of copper sulfate per bucket of water; you can strengthen the composition with a decoction or infusion of nettle, wormwood or tansy; for these infusions, take 100 g of herb per 1 liter, and whey can be replaced with kefir;
- Iodine is also used in the amount of 10 ml of a 5% solution per 10 liters of water; after a week the treatment is repeated;
- Mullein infusion also helps a lot, which should be diluted with water 1:3, leave for 3 days, strain and add 3 liters of water;
- Another remedy: for 2 liters of water, take 2 tablespoons of soda and 20 ml of liquid soap, while soda can be replaced with ash, but you should take more of it;
- Garlic infusion helps a lot against powdery mildew - for this, finely chop 30 g of garlic, add a liter of water, leave for 24 hours, and then increase the volume to 10 liters;
- It is also recommended to try a dark pink solution of potassium permanganate, which you need to treat the cucumbers with 3 times.
Spraying of leaves is carried out in the evening, making sure that the leaves are wetted on the underside, where the fungus most often settles. It is useful to add soap to any solution to ensure even wetting of the leaves. In this case, instead of laundry soap, you can use liquid or dishwashing detergent.
Downy mildew
It differs from the usual one in that yellow spots of irregular shape appear on the top of the leaves, and the mycelium in the form of a light purple coating develops on their lower side. This disease most often affects plants in greenhouses. You need to immediately stop watering, pick off all infected leaves, and sprinkle the ground with ash. Spray the plants with a solution of potassium permanganate or soda ash (25 g per 5 liters of hot water), to which 5 g of tar soap is added. It is necessary to treat the underside of the leaves.
Anthracnose
This disease often develops in greenhouse conditions. Brown circles appear on the leaves, framed by a yellow border. A 5% solution of copper sulfate will help to destroy the disease, after treatment with which it is useful to apply a mixture of honey, lime and activated carbon to the leaves. If any of these components are missing, you can get by with one or two.
Root rot
The disease can be recognized by noticing small cracks at the base of the stem. They should be immediately treated with a solution of ash and copper sulfate. If the disease has already developed, then the cracks in the stem should be sprinkled with ash, chalk, or better yet, crushed activated carbon or a mixture of these components. It can be treated with a mixture prepared from whey, diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 10. For 10 liters of the mixture, add 30 drops of iodine and 40 g of soap. The treatment is repeated every 3 days until the symptoms of the disease disappear.
White rot
Most often develops in a greenhouse. White flakes of rot appear on leaves and cucumbers that look like cotton wool. Control measures consist of manually removing plaque and treating plants with a solution of potassium permanganate. If there is high humidity in the greenhouse, then it is useful for prevention to spray the cucumber plants with milk diluted in a ratio of 1:10 with the addition of soap.
Gray rot
Gray rot manifests itself as follows: gray slimy spots appear on the ends of the cucumbers closest to the stem. To cope with this ailment, mix 1 glass of ash and chalk, stir in a bucket of water and add 1 tsp. copper sulfate. This solution is not only sprayed on the plants, but also watered to remove the infection from the soil. Another way: spray with iodine solution (10 drops per bucket). You can also use solutions of potassium permanganate or 20 g of tar soap per bucket of water. The treatment is repeated after 5 days.
Spider mite
This small pest settles on the underside of leaves and sucks juices from plants. You can remove it using garlic solution. For 1 liter, take 100 g of crushed garlic cloves, let it brew, then bring the volume of the solution to 2 liters and spray the plants with it. Another way to combat this pest: pour finely chopped hot pepper with enough water to cover the pepper, boil for 1 hour, then dilute the broth in a ratio of 1: 3. To ensure reliable protection of the ovary, it is necessary to spray it with the solution. After spraying, it is good to sprinkle the plants with tobacco dust.
melon aphid
This yellow aphid lives on the underside of leaves. To combat it, you need to take 400 g of ash per 10 liters of water, grate 125 g of laundry soap and wipe the leaves affected by pests with a sponge. The solution is watered onto the soil to repel ants.
There are also recipes for processing solutions such as:
- a glass of 9% vinegar in a bucket of water;
- 3 liters of milk and 5 ml of 5% iodine solution per 6 liters of water;
- 60 g of soda per bucket of water;
- 400 g of celandine are infused for a day in a liter of water, then the solution is boiled and the plants are sprayed with an undiluted solution;
- 100 g of garlic minced through a meat grinder are left to infuse in 0.5 liters of water for 4 days, half a glass of infusion is taken into a bucket of spraying solution;
- 30 g of fresh crushed pepper and 200 g of tobacco dust are infused for 24 hours in a bucket of water, filtered, and 150 g of ash and 20 g of liquid soap are added.
Important! Aphids do not like the smell of garlic, onions, mint, fennel, and lavender. If these plants are planted next to a cucumber bed, then aphids will not bother the cucumbers. But beans, petunia and viburnum, on the contrary, attract aphids.
Whitefly
This small moth settles on the underside of leaves, covering them with a white sticky coating.
The following folk methods will help get rid of it:
- garlic infusion is prepared in the same way as for aphids, but you can replace garlic with onions, you need to spray it every day;
- Sponge the cucumber leaves with a strong solution of laundry soap in a ratio of 1: 6;
- For 5 liters of water take 30 g of finely chopped garlic and leave for 24 hours; spray the plants every week until the whitefly disappears;
- tobacco from a pack of cigarettes is poured into 1 liter of boiling water, left in a dark place for 5 days, and the infusion is filtered; The resulting solution is sprayed onto cucumbers 2-3 times a week.
