Medan Warcraft. Who is Medivh from Warcraft? Watches are the best gift
The Last Guardian, the Prophet, the Oracle - these are all names of the most powerful of the magicians of Azeroth: Medivh. During his life, the whole world revolved around him. He brought this world to the brink of disaster, and he also saved it from destruction. Dead and resurrected, he lives on in the memory of both the leaders of the Alliance and the leaders of the Horde. Who is he? You will learn about this from this article.
Bringer of Darkness
The father of our hero was an ordinary, unremarkable, except, perhaps, for his ability to magic, the court mage of Stormwind Nielas Aran, but the mother of Medivh ... It is worth mentioning about her separately, since this outstanding personality played a very significant role in history.
Her name was Magna Aegwynn, Guardian of Tirisfal. And who exactly is the Guardian of Tirisfal? The Order, also known as the Council, of Tirisfal is a secret organization founded over three thousand years ago. Her goal was to locate and destroy the demons of the Burning Legion infiltrating Azeroth. The Council elected the Guardian, and endowed him with incredible power, which gave him power and a very long life. Egwynn, having been the Guardian for over a thousand years, decided to give up this position, and, against the will of the Council, to transfer both the position and the power that comes with it to her child. Shortly before the realization of her plan, in the far north, Aegwynn gained the upper hand over the demon lord, the dark titan Sargeras.
Deciding to make a powerful magician out of her child, she chose Nielas Aran, who fell in love with her without memory, not realizing that he was only used for conception. In the autumn of 559 Human reckoning, or 45 years before the Orc invasion, a boy was born to the Guardian of Tirisfal, who was named Magna Medivh, which means "keeper of secrets" in ancient Elvish. In the annals, Lord Anduin Lothar wrote: “Medivh was born from a court magician and a mysterious traveler. After the birth, the woman disappeared, and the child remained at court under the protection of the kingdom.
The fate of Anduin Lothar is also closely connected with the fate of the Last Guardian. After all, they had known each other since the time when the three of them, Medivh, Lothar, and Prince Llane, were brought up at court as children.
But Magna Aegwynn, who left her son in the care of her father, did not know that Sargeras was not completely destroyed. A particle of his soul penetrated Aegwynn, and then into the ripening fruit, thus finding a new shell. The frail apprentice of court mages combined the powers of the Guardian of Tirisfal, the mages of Dalaran, and the demons of the Burning Legion.
long sleep
It was 571 years according to human chronology. King Adamant Wrynn the Third reigned in Stormwind. Twelve-year-old Medivh is trained in magic at court, and shows remarkable talent in this. He could have become the next court mage, or even a member of the Kirin Tor, but fate decreed otherwise. On the night of his birthday, he has nightmares: dark figures chasing each other over deep chasms. The awakened young man runs to his father, who, suspecting his son has a fever, puts his hand on Medivh's forehead. According to witnesses, at the same moment, a hellish flame lit up in the boy's eyes, and magical vibrations alarmed all the nearby magicians, who, by joint efforts, managed to immobilize the boy. The young magician looked like an obsessed man and screamed terribly - magical flows of unthinkable power passed through his body, and his father was motionless like a stone.
Now no one can say how long the magical storm lasted - a few hours, or a few days. But at one moment, the raging magic suddenly subsided and the bodies of father and son collapsed to the floor. Nielas Aran was dead, and Medivh fell into a long magical sleep. The youth was transferred to Northshire Abbey, both for his safety and the safety of the kingdom. Everyone understood that the boy was dangerous, but did not realize how much.
Awakening
Medivh spent about twenty years in a dream, and reappeared in public during the solemn ceremony of the entry of Prince Llane into adulthood. Lord Lothar describes the appearance of the magician in this way: “A cold wind blew - at first it was a slight draft, but it intensified, and under the blows of the wind the doors to the hall flew off the hinges. A dark figure appeared in the passage, flying in the wind like a bird of prey. The torches around the hall flared blue and we saw Medivh. He landed at the king's table, and the guards jumped up from their seats. With one flick of his hand, he immobilized them. And then he said that he finally managed to master his power, calmed his spirit and body, woke up and hurried to Stormwind to thank the court for his kindness and attend the festive ceremony.
After that, he settled in the tower of Karazhan, having previously made a gift to Prince Llane: hourglass, in which sand poured, but at the same time their lower part still remained empty, and the upper one was full. Handing over the watch, Medivh said: "The sand is the people of the kingdom, and until all the sand is poured, the kingdom will not fall." None of those present had any doubts that this watch was not just a trinket, but an ominous artifact. Therefore, the gift was removed away and tried to forget about it.
Hermit and Apprentice
In addition to Medivh, two more people lived in the tower: the palace of Morouz and the Cook. The hermit behaved quite naturally: he was arrogant and arrogant, like many powerful magicians. But Medivh knew that another entity lived within him. Later, he will tell his mother: "Sargeras taught me what you could not teach!". Was he human at the time, or was the dark titan already controlling him? This is unknown to us.
The presence of Medivh and the magicians of Dalaran was alarming, who, in order to find out what the reclusive magician was doing in his tower, sent a student named Khadgar to him, however, not particularly hoping for success. Contrary to expectations, Medivh accepted the young man and settled him in Karazhan, although he probably divined the plans of Dalaran.
After some time, the experiments of the magician had an impact on the life of the kingdom. Anduin Lothar wrote: “Six years passed, and rot gradually spread in the country. The richest soils of the kingdom did not give a harvest. Children fell ill and could not fully recover. Even the mood of the inhabitants of Azeroth fell. The weather during the harvest season was unusually cold, and in summer the sun scorched the ground so that it was unbearable to work without shade. Neither the priests nor the magicians could explain the reason for what was happening. People are getting more and more desperate…”
The First War was coming. While the Burning Legion was enslaving the orcs in Draenor, Medivh was making a deal with the leader of the Horde, the warlock Gul'dan. He promised to give the orcs new enemies for war, and a new world to conquer, and in exchange he asked to give him power over the kingdom of Wrynn.
Exile of Sargeras
Through the combined efforts of Medivh and the warlocks of the Horde, in what is now known as the Blasted Lands, the Dark Portal was opened - the gate between Azeroth and Draenor.
Kadagar, having encountered the half-orc Garona in the corridors of the tower, learned about the emergence of a new race, but did not suspect Medivh's participation in this. At the same time, in the fortress of Stormwind, Prince Llane burst into his father's dining room with a watch, a gift from Medivh, in his hands, and the king was horrified to see that the sand was practically poured into them. As soon as the last grain of sand fell, a ram hit the gates of the city - the orcs stormed the capital of people.
These events caught the attention of Aegwynn, who came to Karazhan to demand an explanation from her son. The result of the conversation was a fight between them, and youth prevailed. Medivh did not kill his mother, but he stripped her of her powers and drove her away. But she hasn't played her part yet.
Meanwhile, Khadgar followed his master and found out about his guilt in this war. The young magician went to the king and lord Lothar to inform them of this. Khadgar, Lothar and Garona went to the tower to kill the villain. As a result, Sargeras was finally destroyed, and only Khadgar, who unnaturally aged, remained alive. Medivh is dead, but the story doesn't end there.
New Guardian of Tirisfal
Magna Egwynn, not losing hope of passing her position to her son, spent almost all of her remaining strength on the resurrection of Medivh. Returning to life free from the dark influence of Sargeras, the mage accepted the position of Guardian. He had something to do: despite the fact that the people won the victory over the orcs, Azeroth was still in danger. From the north came a plague that turned people into undead, obedient to the will of the Lich King.
Medivh went to warn King Terenas and his son Arthas of the danger. The Keeper tried to persuade them to travel west to the shores of Kalimdor. However, he was considered insane and ordered to leave the hall immediately. But there were people who believed him.
Medivh convinced the young orc chief Thrall of the same thing, sending him visions that caused him to wake up in a cold sweat. It is noteworthy that at the first meeting of Thrall and Medivh, in response to the contemptuous: "Who are you, man?" Medivh replied thoughtfully, “Human? There is nothing human left in me for a long time ... ".
Everyone knows what happened next. The Alliance and the Horde united, and at the cost of many lives, destroyed the demon lord Archimonde. Immediately after the victory, Medivh left, saying goodbye: “The roots of the Tree will heal in time, like the whole world. Sacrifices were made - just as the orcs, humans and night elves cast aside their former hatred and stood shoulder to shoulder against a common enemy, so nature itself rose to banish the Darkness forever. As for me, I have returned to make sure that there is a future - to teach the world that it no longer needs Guardians ... Now that my task is completed, I will take my place among the legends of the past.
Thus ends the story of Magna Medivh. He left the mortal realm, but perhaps when the world is again on the brink of destruction, the Last Guardian of Tirisfal will return to save him.

Name: Magna Medivh
Occupation: magician, sorcerer, prophet.
Was born: 559 year.
Died: 583 (0 according to the new calendar).
Sunday: 589 year.
This man was and remains the most powerful sorcerer on Azeroth. He brought terrible misfortune to his kingdom and managed to save the whole world, standing as a gray cardinal at the origins of the alliance of mortal races. He died for his sins and rose again. Legends are made about him and they scare small children at bedtime. He is remembered with a curse on his lips, and his prophecies are remembered by both the leaders of the Horde and the leaders of the Alliance. Many mysteries have not yet been revealed in the biography of the famous wizard Medivh, the last guardian of Tirisfal.
marked by darkness
Magna Medivh was born in the capital of the kingdom of Azeroth (later the Kingdom of Storms) in the autumn of 559 according to the traditional calendar and in 45 before the orc invasion. His mother was Magna Aegwynn, a powerful heroine in the position of Guardian of Tirisfal, and his father was Stormwind's court mage, Nyelas Aran.
To understand the history of the short relationship between the mage and the warrior, one must look back thousands of years ago, when a secret society of mages and high elves founded an even more secret society to fight the demons of the Legion that penetrated Azeroth here and there. The council elected a guardian to fight the demons and endowed him with unlimited power and authority. The Guardians of Tirisfal were so secret that even the kings did not know anything about them (or they hid it well). Aegwynn battled demons for many hundreds of years, and nearly a thousand years before Medivh's birth, she defeated the demon lord Sargeras in the far north. Now, tired of the tedium of Tirisfal's council suggesting that she resign as Guardian, she decided to transfer her powers and position to her son.
Aegwynn planned to make a powerful wizard out of her son. It was then that the talented and skillful, but arrogant and inexperienced in love affairs court magician Nyelas Aran caught the eye of the demon slayer. He fell in love with Aegwynn, not realizing that she was simply using him as a source of valuable genes.
Later in the annals, the knight Sir Anduin Lothar wrote: “The child wizard Medivh was born from a court magician and a mysterious traveler. After the birth, the woman disappeared, and the child remained at court under the protection of the kingdom. Lothar knew Medivh closely - after all, they were brought up and played together since childhood, the three of them with Prince Llane, who was born five years later than the wizard. Later, King Llane Wyrinn the First would say of Medivh: "He was an ordinary boy - only a little withdrawn."
Naming her son "Mediv", which in ancient Elvish means "keeper of secrets", Magna Egwynn left him unattended for a long time, out of habit hoping for her plans and that in adulthood his magical power would manifest itself. She really showed - but neither father nor mother knew that the defeated titan Sargeras managed to hide his psychomatrix in Aegwynn, after many hundreds of years to penetrate the fetus through the placental barrier and hide in his wizard son. The strength of the Guardian of Tirisfal, the wizards of Dalaran, and the demons of the Burning Legion combined in a frail apprentice of court mages.
Then something happened that can be called "the history of Harry Potter in reverse."

571 year. Reign of King Wyrinn III. The children grow up, and Medivh turns twelve (according to other sources, the events took place on his fourteenth birthday - possibly in 573). Medivh is already learning magic at court and is showing remarkable talent as a wizard. However, he is not destined to continue his studies - on the night of his birthday, he sees nightmares: dark figures that pursue each other over deep abysses. Waking up, the young wizard goes to the bedroom to his father, the magician Nyelas Aran. He, seeing the disheveled son, suspected a fever and put his hand on his forehead. According to witnesses, at the same moment, a hellish flame lit up in the boy’s eyes and a flash of magical energy in the ether alarmed all the clergy from the nearby Northshire Abbey. Hundreds of wizards ran to the noise that rose in the subtle planes of energy and managed to immobilize Medivh. The boy looked like a possessed man and screamed terribly - currents of magic of unheard-of strength passed through his body. The father was unconscious and seemed to be stiff.
The magical hurricane intensified. The clerics were, to put it mildly, somewhat alarmed. There were rumors about the evacuation of Storm. The storm lasted for several hours or several days - no one can say for sure now. Then time seemed to stand still - perhaps it was side effect magical storm. But at one moment, the raging magic suddenly subsided - father and son collapsed to the floor. Nyelas Aran was dead, the life drained from him. Medivh fell into a deep lethargic sleep.
After brief meetings between the king and the abbot, it was decided to transfer the sleeping magician to Northshire Abbey in the forests under Storm - for his good and away from the court. It was clear that the young man was dangerous. But no one suspected how much.
After that, the story began to resemble a distorted version of Sleeping Beauty.

577 year. The Kingdom of Azeroth celebrates the coming of age of Prince Llane. Thousands of guests were invited to the gala dinner. Among those invited, of course, there is no Medivh - in six years everyone has already forgotten about the wizard sleeping in a magical dream.
And he didn't forget about them. Here is how Sir Lothar describes the events of the evening: “A cold wind blew - at first it was a slight draft, but it intensified, and under the blows of the wind the doors to the hall flew off the hinges. A dark figure appeared in the passage, flying in the wind like a bird of prey. The torches around the hall flared blue and we saw Medivh. He landed at the king's table, and the guards jumped up from their seats. With one flick of his hand, he immobilized them. And then he said that he finally managed to master his power, calmed his spirit and body, woke up and hurried to the Storm's fortress to thank the court for his kindness and attend the festive ceremony.
It was not easy to believe in the wizard's good intentions. Flying into the banqueting hall unannounced and publicly humiliating the king's guards is not the best way to enlist the support of the court.
It is interesting: as you can see, Medivh had a passion for flying and spectacular appearances even in his youth. Many years later, the wizard would appear in much the same way in the face of King Terenas and Prince Arthas.
From under his flowing robes, Medivh pulled out a gift that did nothing to lighten the mood. It was a large obsidian hourglass filled with white sand. It is difficult to put it more succinctly in the spirit of "I measured your life span." While the sand poured down before the eyes of the king, the young prince and guests, filling the lower part and not drying up in the upper part, Medivh accompanied the gift with a speech. He said that the sand represented the people of the kingdom, and until all the sand was poured out, the kingdom of King Wyrinn would not fall.
In appearance, the elegant object looked like a magical trinket, but few doubted that sinister power lurked in this artifact. The clock was placed in a back room of the palace and they tried to forget about it. Medivh withdrew himself - he went east and took the ancient tower of Karazhan under his laboratory.
Karazhan rages

film "The meeting place cannot be changed"
Was Medivh by that time a human, or was he controlled by the demon lord Sargeras? Most likely, the titan, inherited by the magician from his mother, influenced the motives and secret desires of Medivh. At the same time, eyewitnesses note that the recluse wizard behaved quite naturally - of course, he was arrogant, rude, hovered in the clouds and did not put others in a penny. But this is how many powerful wizards behave. But he was well aware that an alien entity was sitting in his soul. "Sargeras taught me what you could not teach!" - these words he will later throw in the face of his mother.
We do not know what Medivh did in his self-imposed confinement. Nor did the mages of the Kirin Tor organization in the city of Dalaran know this. A new figure, and even such a powerful wizard doing dark things in an ancient cursed tower, is a cause for concern. Dalaran sent an apprentice to the wizard - a young, promising, but not too valuable for the order mage Khadgar (in dwarf this word means "Faith" or "Faithful"). No one really hoped that through Khadgar they would be able to find out more about the mysterious magician. Medivh, however, received the messenger in the tower and, having a little laugh at the naive attempts of the circle of Tirisfal to spy on him, made Khadgar his apprentice.
At that time, besides the mage and his apprentice, only two people lived in Karazhan's tower. The first was the gloomy and twitchy butler Moroes - he advised Khadgar not to pay attention to the mysterious visions that filled the tower, and showed how he copes with the problem himself: with the help of horse blinders worn over his eyes. The cook was even less sociable - she cooked for the four inhabitants of the tower and for the guests; I had no interest in magic at all.
As the years passed, Medivh's magical experiments gradually began to affect the state of affairs in the kingdom. Sir Anduin Lothar writes: “Six years passed, and rot gradually spread in the country. The richest soils of the kingdom did not give a harvest. Children fell ill and could not fully recover. Even the mood of the inhabitants of Azeroth fell. The weather during the harvest season was unusually cold, and in summer the sun scorched the ground so that it was unbearable to work without shade. Neither the clerics nor the magicians could explain the reason for what was happening. People are getting more and more desperate...
We now know that during these years, while the demons subjugated the orcs on distant Draenor, Medivh was engaged in establishing contact with the leader of the Horde, the sorcerer Gul-Dan and developing the technology of creating a portal between the worlds. No one knew this then, and even Khadgar had no idea where his sensei sometimes went, and why Medivh's clothes smelled of swamp slime.
The anxiety grew. Year zero was approaching according to the new chronology. On the threshold was the First War.
Death is just the beginning
- He flew away, but he promised to return - dear!
m / f "Carlson, who lives on the roof"
In EC 583, Medivh, along with Orc sorcerers, succeeded in opening a Dark Portal in the distant swamps. The world will never be the same again.
The apprentice mage Khadgar learned of the invasion when he encountered the half-orc Garona, an agent and diplomat of the Horde, in the tower corridor. But even then, he did not suspect the teacher's involvement in the emergence of a new people in the swamps. In Stormfall Hold, the news of the invasion was announced one foggy morning. Prince Llane stormed into the hall where his father was having breakfast, with an hourglass—Mediv's gift—at the ready. King Wyrinn the Third took the watch from his son's hand and broke into a cold sweat, almost full of sand. When the last grain of sand fell, a battering ram hit the gates of the Storm - by a strange coincidence, the raid
Orcs on Storm was assigned for that very morning. The magician's prophecy has come true. A bloody war began, and no one remembered the secretive sorcerer sitting in the tower of Karazhan. The orc problem worried Khadgar, but when he asked Medivh if he was going to do something about the threat from the swamps, the wizard replied evasively: “Orcs are not demons. They are creatures of flesh and blood and should be handled by warriors, not mages."It is difficult to explain why Medivh personally needed to summon the orcs of Gul-Dan. Most likely, on the path to knowledge and power, the destruction of mankind seemed to him to be taken for granted under the indoctrination of Sargeras. Titan, the dark enemy of existence, promised Gul-Dan and Medivh about the same thing, but in different terms.
Events in the south of the continent caught the attention of Aegwynn, and she suddenly appeared in Karazhan to demand an explanation from her son. As a result of a short skirmish, Medivh and Aegwynn grappled. Youth won.
However, the wizard could not or did not want to kill the mother - he deprived her of her magical powers and drove her out of sight. Aegwynn will return to finish his role in history, but for now let's take a look at the mage Khadgar, who all this time was spying on the owner of the tower with the help of magical portals.
Everything became clear to the student. Medivh is the villain responsible for the appearance of orcs in the swamps. The young King Llane and the knight Anduin Lothar gloomily listen to the report of Khadgar and the witness, the emissary of the Garona horde. And now a group of heroes, which included everyone except the young king, goes to the tower to eliminate the culprit of the misfortunes of the kingdom, who, as it turned out, not only pulled life from the earth itself to feed his strength, but also called on hordes of green-skinned monsters.
Who killed Medivh? Now no one can say for sure - of the witnesses of the battle, only Khadgar survived. According to the official story, it was he who plunged the sword into the heart of his master. At the same time, Sir Lothar, giving the story a touch of a samurai legend, at the same moment cut off the magician's head with his sword, providing Sargeras with complete disincarnation. During the battle, the land around Karazhan, all the way to the dark forest to the east, was afflicted with dark energies, and Khadgar himself aged unnaturally. He thinks he got off lightly.
Thus perished the slave of honor. That would be the end of the story of the restless magician, if not for his influential relatives.
Seven destinies - one magician |
The fate of those who in life had to be a contemporary, friend, acquaintance or relative of Medivh was not very successful. For the most part, those who knew Medivh personally died. Nyelas Aran, father. Died in EC 571 in Stormfall Hold when demonic energy awakened in Medivh. Later, the restless spirit of the old wizard was seen in the tower of Karazhan - all magical powers remained with him. Magna Egwynn, mother. In the battle with her son, she lost almost all her strength, except for the energy of eternal youth. She was banished to Kalimdor, to Mulgore. Twenty-one years after the exile, she managed to resurrect her son. Medivh, with his magical power, provided Aegwynn with protection and a quiet old age. It is likely that Aegwynn is still alive and living in Kalimdor incognito. Some say she masquerades as the elf Pinead in Jaina Proudmoore's retinue at Theramore Keep. Others nod at the sorceress Tabitha, who lives in the swamp nearby. Moroes, the butler. Killed by Medivh when he finally lost touch with reality shortly before his own death. Buried near the tower of Karazhan. Resurrected from the dead and now oversees protocol at the ghostly ball. Cook, maid. Killed by Medivh, buried next to the tower. Khadgar, apprentice. After the second war, he remained on the decaying Draenor. Now he is permanently on duty in the city of Shattrath, at the throne of the Naaru, provides guide services and helps the heroes get to the tower of Karazhan. Llane Wyrinn First, friend. Killed during the First War in an assassination attempt by the half-orc Garona. Sir Anduin Lothar, friend. He died during the First War as a result of an attack by orcs before the Battle of Black Rock. |

Powerful wizards very often return after death in a somewhat altered form (for example, with washed and bleached clothes). Medivh was no exception. The wizard was purposefully resurrected by his once exiled mother, the warrior Aegwynn. Resurrection is more difficult than fighting demons, and Aegwynn has spent almost all of her remaining strength to bring her son back to life. Once again among the living, but without the dark magic of Sargeras in his heart, Medivh was pleasantly surprised and decided to correct his mistakes by enlisting in the Guardians of Tirisfal, inheriting the position from his mother. Despite the fact that the war against the orcs people won (and more than one), the world was rapidly heading towards disaster. The threat came to the north, and more than twenty years had passed since the orc invasion. There are no others, and Khadgar is far away.
To warn King Terenas and the young Prince Arthas of the threat of a plague from the north, Medivh, out of habit, broke into the throne room with special effects and laid out everything at once: they need to leave the country and sail west to Kalimdor, because the north is already lost. Naturally, no one recognized Medivh, the prophet was considered abnormal and taken away under white hands. As we all know, this ended badly for both Prince Arthas and King Terenas - and this can also be partially blamed on the conscience of a wizard who does not know how to psychologically correctly submit a prophecy.
However, there were people at court who believed Medivh - albeit not immediately. The sight of the burning Stratholme, destroyed by Prince Arthas, will convince anyone. Among those who believed was the young orc Thrall, who escaped from captivity and took his brethren to travel west. In his dreams, Medivh gave him material in an extremely simplified form: in a green clearing, an orc fights with a knight, and then an infernal falls from the sky and vomits both on a heating pad. Then there is a large-scale battle of people and orcs - with the same outcome. A rare orc will endure several nights of vivid three-dimensional dreams in cold blood. Interestingly, at the first meeting of Thrall and Medivh, in response to the contemptuous: "Who are you, man?" Medivh hummed deep into his throat and said, “No, I’m not human anymore. I am something else."
What happened next, we know. Medivh took into account his mistakes and appeared before the heroes only in critical situations, tearing the template to shreds. The representatives of the mortal races have heard the warning. The traditionally warring Alliance and Horde united for a time, and Medivh managed to save the world at the cost of great efforts and many lives of orcs, humans and elves.
Immediately after it became clear that the "good" had won, Medivh said goodbye to everyone, saying, "The roots of the Tree will heal in time, as will the rest of the world. Sacrifices were made - just as the orcs, humans and night elves cast aside their former hatred and stood shoulder to shoulder against a common enemy, so nature itself rose up to banish the Shadow forever. As for me, I have returned to make sure there is a future, to teach the world that it no longer needs Guardians... Now that my task is done, I will take my place among the legends of the past."
And he left the mortal world.
On a magic staff a huge knob |
Medivh always carried with him a simple wooden staff with a head in the shape of a seated raven. With it, he opened his famous portal, with it he gave out his famous prophecies to orcs, elves and kings. After Medivh went down in history, his staff was suddenly found in strange places - in the hives of An-Kirah, the lord of Ktun took possession of its foundation, and the dead Kel-Thuzad in the flying fortress of Naxxramas acquired the head of the staff. The staff itself was broken into forty pieces and distributed to the servants of Kel-Thuzad, presumably for special merit. They treated the artifact, to be sure, in a barbaric way, but even after such bullying, the staff, as a result of complex manipulations and the operation of expelling evil spells, could be restored and used for its intended purpose by sorcerers, magicians, priests and druids. Not only is the staff not bad on its own—and few people can boast such a historically valuable item—it can be used to open a portal through which heroes can file straight to the gates of Karazhan. |

The great wizard is no longer on Azeroth, and there aren't many people alive who remember Medivh. But, oddly enough, anyone can, if they wish, see him and talk to him. The caves of Time help us in this, where the dragons of Nozdormu guard the key events of the past from the invasion of the dragons of Eternity. Medivh, of course, is present at the key event of the story - at the moment the Dark Portal opens. And in this he is helped by both the Horde and the Alliance. It would seem, why not let the past change, so that people and orcs never meet, and the planet Draenor and the world of Azeroth never unite? But - it is impossible. If humans don't meet with the orcs, they won't unite against the demons, and both planets will fall separately to the Burning Legion.
An encounter with the ghostly image of Medivh awaits travelers inside Karazhan's tower. You won't have to fight him. Heroes will only be asked to play a game of chess. Be careful: the ghost of a great magician sometimes cheats!
Many claim to have seen black ravens flying around Karazhan's tower. Who knows, maybe it's Medivh himself who looks after his old house out of habit.
Magna Medivh - He can be treated differently. He deserved both hate and love. He almost brought the world to the brink of disaster and pulled it out of there, appearing in time before the right humanoids. For more than fifty years, the world revolved around him and the course of events obeyed his will. The figure of the tragic prophet has played a key role in the events of recent years. He left the world in the care of the mortal races, said goodbye politely, and left... but he didn't slam the door behind him. It is not at all impossible that when the danger looms over the world again, we will be able to shine a spotlight on the clouds with the silhouette of a magic hat, and Medivh will return.
And together they opened the Dark Portal, which allowed the Burning Legion to begin the destruction of Azeroth at the hands of the Horde. Medivh was soon killed by a force led by his friend Anduin Lothar.
The name "Mediv" means "keeper of secrets" in the Thalassian language. Medivh's weapon was Atiesh, the greatstaff of the Guardian now in the hands of his apprentice Khadgar.

Khadgar was the first to learn that it was Medivh who brought the Horde to Azeroth. He, along with Garona, went to King Llane Wrynn and Anduin Lothar. The king refused to believe their words, believing that his friend could not be a traitor. Lothar believed them and led a squad that headed to Karazhan to defeat the Guardian. Khadgar and Garona joined the party.
Another battle has begun in Karazhan. Finally, Khadgar placed his blade against Medivh's chest and pierced through his heart. At that moment, the demon awakened within the Guardian and Lothar cut off its head, banishing Sargeras to the Twisting Nether. After the death of Medivh, who was in the prime of his life, a curse was released on the tower and its surroundings. This place became known as Deadwind Pass.
resurrection
The source of information in this section is fiction in the Warcraft universe.
Aegwynn spent many years accumulating magical powers to revive her son, and it finally happened. Medivh headed straight for Karazhan. It was said that an unknown intruder made his way into the tower, muttering something. When he found a piece of an astrolabe and touched it, he saw the past - a man who held the same astrolabe. Medivh was able to communicate with Khadgar from the past and told him that the battle, death and resurrection destroyed both the Guardian and Sargeras in him. Now, for the first time in his life, Medivh was simply Medivh. After speaking with a former apprentice, he gathered the energy and visions of Karazhan to prepare for the next battle against the Burning Legion, later called the Third War.
Prophet
The source of information in this section is the game Warcraft III or addition to it.
A strange prophet, able to transform into a large black crow, began to appear before various inhabitants of Azeroth. He warned them of a coming invasion that threatened to destroy the entire world. The young leader of the Horde - Thrall, the son of Durotan - had a dream where people and orcs fought against each other, and infernals fell from heaven. When Thrall awoke, the Prophet told him that the dream would come true and Thrall must travel to the ancient lands of Kalimdor if he wanted to save his people. The leader believed his words, and the New Horde, having received the ships, sailed across the Great Sea.
It was much more difficult to convince people. Terenas Menethil, King of Lordaeron, and the archmage Antonidas drove the Prophet away, calling him a madman. Prince Arthas refused to leave his beleaguered people. Only the young daughter of Admiral Proudmoore and apprentice of Antonidas, Jaina, felt that the words of the Prophet could be true. When he appeared before her just after the destruction of Stratholme, Jaina heeded his warnings and prepared to head west. She sailed for Kalimdor with a group of her people just after the invasion began.
Thrall arrived on the western mainland in search of his destiny, and his new friend Cairn Bloodhoof, chieftain of the tauren, advised him to go to the Oracle. Orcs, fighting an expedition of people, were able to get through to the Oracle, but found Jaina and her followers there. The battle was about to begin when the Prophet reappeared. He said that they should stop fighting each other so that the world would have hope of defeating the Burning Legion. Thrall and Jaina reluctantly agreed.
The Prophet revealed himself when the time came to rally the forces of the peoples of Azeroth. Appearing in the dreams of Thrall, the night elf Malfurion Stormrage and Jaina, he told each of them that in order to defeat a common enemy, they must unite. He also revealed that he was Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal, and that he was the one responsible for the invasion of the orcs and the Burning Legion into Azeroth. Thrall, Malfurion and Jaina realized that Medivh was right and joined their forces and peoples to protect the World Tree Nordrassil. At the height of the battle, the nature spirits, summoned by the Horn of Cenarius, destroyed Archimonde, who had led the demons of the Burning Legion, once and for all.
Convinced that the world was now safe, Medivh disappeared to take his place among the legends of the past. Thanks to his intervention, Azeroth was saved, and in this way he atoned for his former sins.
Return to Karazhan
The source of information in this section is an addendum Legion to World of Warcraft.
More than a decade passed before Medivh showed up again. It happened during the invasion of heroes in Karazhan, captured by the demons of the Burning Legion. Wiz'aduum the All-Seer was sent by Kil'jaeden to turn the ley lines passing through Karazhan into the service of the Legion. As the heroes and Khadgar reached the top of the tower, where everything around was distorted by the sheer amount of magic, Medivh suddenly appeared before them. He revealed that the demons had already linked Karazhan to the Legion worlds. Medivh and Khadgar worked to destroy this link while the heroes battled Viz'aduum.
With the demon commander down, Khadgar and Medivh finally got a chance to talk. Khadgar told his former mentor that he would be a valuable ally against the Legion. But Medivh replied that he was following a different path and that Azeroth had already found a Guardian in the person of Khadgar. Finally, Medivh warned that many trials lay ahead, and, turning into a crow, flew straight into the Twisting Nether.
- Archmage Khadgar says: The demons have been banished from Karazhan! Thank you heroes! Medivh, you could be a valuable ally in our fight against the Legion.
- Medivh says: I have a different path. Azeroth has already found a Guardian in you, young friend.
- Archmage Khadgar says: I... don't know what to say, Medivh.
- Medivh says: Enough sentiment! Listen to me one last time.
- Medivh says: Closing a door is often easier than entering it. But in order to break the bonds of fate, sometimes you have to take a step into the unknown.
- Medivh says: Many trials lie ahead for all of us. Farewell.
- Archmage Khadgar says: The bonds of fate... I need to think these words over. See you, heroes.
Biography
Birth and childhood
Medivh destroys the Gurubashi tribe in the siege of Stormwind.
However, Aegwynn was not the only one who tried to resist the independent keeper. Arcanagos, a blue dragon and one of the guardians of magic, visited Karazhan and attempted to turn Medivh from the path he had chosen. In the end, the blue decided to use force, but Medivh overwhelmed the dragon and burned it from the inside. Once again Medivh had exhausted his powers and had to restore them.
Shortly thereafter, the magisters of Dalaran sent an apprentice to Medivh. This young man was known as Khadgar, which means "Loyalty" in Dwarven. As time went on, the "Faithful Youth" became Medivh's apprentice. He lived in Karazhan with the others: Medivh, who taught him, Moroes, the butler, and the Cook.
At this time, a war began to flare up between the orcs and people - the orcs kept coming and coming from the Black Marsh. Medivh did not worry about this and said that everything was going according to plan. Shortly thereafter, Garona of Half-Orc arrived in Karazhan as an emissary for the Horde. Unbeknownst to anyone, a brief affair took place between Garona and Medivh, which led to the birth of a mixed-race child, Med'an.
Khadgar was the first to discover that it was Medivh who let the orcs into Azeroth. During this time, Khadgar and Garona had an audience with King Llane and Anduin Lothar, and the latter became convinced of Medivh's betrayal. Lothar, one of Medivh's best friends, led a small force of people, which included Khadgar and Garonne, to stop the mad Guardian. During the battle, Khadgar, aged by Medivh's magic, plunged Lothar's sword into the mage's heart. The demon within Medivh awakened, but Lothar had already struck the final blow, decapitating the mage and plunging Sargeras into the Void.
In his prime, Medivh cultivated and fought Sargeras in his tower of Karazhan. Medivh's power was so great that his death placed a curse on the once majestic tower and surrounding lands, now called Deadwind Pass. And the tower has become such a dangerous and cursed place from which no one has ever returned (chain of the Amethyst Eye).

The Appearance of the Prophet
After the Second War, the mysterious prophet appeared to various inhabitants of Azeroth. He tried to warn of the impending end of the world. The young leader of the Horde - Thrall, the son of Durotan - had a dream where orcs and people fought each other, while infernals rained down from heaven. He woke up and the Prophet told him that it was a vision and that he must travel to the ancient lands of Kalimdor if he wanted to save his people. Thrall sensed that the Prophet was telling the truth, and set a course along the sea, westward to the distant shores of Kalimdor. Medivh, the Prophet, preferred not to directly intervene in the coming war (leading some to think he was just a ghost) He has the ability to transform into a large, black bird.
The Horde made an exodus to Kalimdor, but the situation of the people was much more difficult. King Terenas of Lordaeron and Archmage Antonidas of Dalaran thought the Prophet was insane. The king's son, Prince Arthas, refused to leave his people in need of protection. Only Daelin Proudmoore's young daughter and student of Antonidas, Jaina, felt that he might be right. When the Prophet appeared to her after the destruction of Stratholme, she heeded his warnings and began to prepare to sail. Jaina and her people departed for Kalimdor as the invasion began. Thrall came to Kalimdor in search of his destiny and his new acquaintance, Cairne Bloodhoof - chieftain of the Bloodhoof tribe - suggested that he go to the Oracle. Thrall reached the Oracle while fighting the Lordaeron Expedition, but met Jaina and a few other people there. When they were ready to fight, the prophet appeared. He told them that if they hope to defeat the Burning Legion and save Azeroth from destruction, they must put aside their strife and unite. They reluctantly agreed.
Medivh meets with the leaders of the mortal races.
Finally, the Prophet revealed himself when it was time to join forces. Appearing in a dream to Thrall, the night elf Malfurion Stormrage, and Jaina, the Prophet told them that they must forge an alliance to fight against a common enemy. He told them that he was Medivh, the Last Guardian of Tirisfal, and that it was his fault that the orcs, and after them the Burning Legion, infiltrated Azeroth. Thrall, Jaina, and Malfurion became convinced that victory could only be achieved if their peoples united and rallied to defend the World Tree, Nordrassil. At the decisive hour, the spirits of nature appeared, summoned by the sounds of the Horn of Cenarius, and destroyed Archimonde once and for all.
Confident that the world was safe for the time being, and that he was able to atone for his terrible sins, the Appearance of Medivh to Med'an. Medivh disappeared to take his place "among the legends of the past." His actions saved Azeroth and made amends for his past crimes.
Subsequently
It is unknown where he went after the events of the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Perhaps his stay on Azeroth came to an end and he left the material plane, or perhaps he simply retired somewhere far away. Later, a black raven was seen flying over Karazhan's tower, and there are suggestions that the Last Guardian lingered in this world after all. But still, his fate remains unknown, and from his last words it is clear that we will never see or hear from him again.
Despite this, he left his reflection in Karazhan to pass on knowledge and power to his son, Med'an, so that he could decide his own destiny.
Circle of Hatred
Although much has passed by the beginning of events World of Warcraft, Medivh, in addition The Burning Crusade, occurs in one form or another in two instances. Strangely, Medivh's model and animation is based on that of a male night elf, not a human.
He appears in the quests Master's Permission, Return to Khadgar.
It starts and uploads the following jobs:
Caverns of Time
The first time we meet Medivh is in Opening the Dark Portal, the second instance of the Caverns of Time, which opens after completing the Escape from Durnholde. Set in the Black Marsh as Medivh is attempting to open the Dark Portal, it is up to a group of players to protect him from the dragonflight of the Infinite who are trying to kill him and stop the Portal from opening, preventing the orcs from invading Azeroth.
Medivh is featured in Karazhan's attunement process. After obtaining Khadgar's key fragments from instances in Outland, Khadgar sends you to the Black Marsh to speak with Medivh and enchant the key to open the locked gates of Karazhan. Medivh will give you the Master's Key. However, you must first pass the instance before you can talk to him and get the key.
Karazhan
Echo of Medivh in Karazhan.
Twice more Medivh is encountered in his former domain, Karazhan, in Deadwind Pass, which was abandoned after his death in the hands of Khadgar and Lothar shortly before the end of the Second War. The players meet the "Echo of Medivh" in the chess room, where they must play a game of chess with him. The "Projection of Medivh" is encountered in the Terrace of the Master in the flashback scene of the battle with the blue dragon Arcanagos.
World of Warcraft: The Comic
In spite of his unknown fate, he left an avatar of himself in Karazhan to give a message of knowledge and power to his son, Med "an, so that Med" an could decide his own fate. The avatar commented himself as being gone from Azeroth.

Death
Medivh's death is depicted in at least four different sources.
In the "Last Guardian" interlude in the "End of Eternity" campaign of the game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Medivh is shown in a flashback where he is killed by several foot soldiers. While Lothar may have been the captain of the scene, Khadgar and Garona are nowhere to be seen. However, this can be explained by the fact that the two were wearing Stormwind robes as described in The Last Guardian, thus being shown as mere foot soldiers.
Finally, in the Flashback comic, we see that Medivh was stabbed in the heart by Khadgar, but Lothar is just standing behind.
The idea that in addition to Lothar, Khadgar and Garona, other people are involved in the event is supported by Shadows & Light ("... a detachment of human warriors ...") and Horde Player's Guide ("A group of people slowed down the invasion by killing Medivh"). But both sources confirm that Lothar, Khadgar, and Garonna were involved in it.Tides of Darkness explains that Lothar was with Garona, Khadgar, and a group of humans when they defeated Medivh.
Atiesh
Medivh holding Atiesh.
The most powerful wizards focus their powers into magical staves, and Medivh is no exception. His staff Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian , was augmented by an agent of Sargeras, increasing Medivh's already immense strength. After Medivh was killed, Atiesh was taken to Dalaran, where it was revealed that the spirit contained in the staff was capable of killing anyone who dared to take possession of it. Atiesh was locked in a secret vault where he was kept for thirty years until Dalaran was destroyed by Archimonde. The staff was divided into 42 parts - 40 chips, pommel and base.
The base somehow came into the possession of C'Thun in Ahn'Qiraj (before that, it was owned by Brann Bronzebeard, who found it during his explorations of Azeroth), and the necromancer lich Kel'Thuzad, who is responsible for summoning Archimonde, had the pommel. 40 slivers are in the hands of Kel'Thuzad's lieutenants in his stronghold of Naxxramas, in the Eastern Plaguelands. But even if the staff can be restored, the corruption of Sargeras must first be exorcised from it.

Personality
The spirit of Medivh fought with Sargeras all the time for control of the body and mind. This struggle did not stop and, as a result, Medivh's state periodically fluctuated from complete calm and clarity to bouts of strange and incomprehensible behavior. To outsiders, it seemed that he often made absurd decisions and unexpectedly changed his views. When the struggle between the two entities became unbearable for the body, Medivh fell into a coma and did not respond to external influences. The duration of this state could vary from a few minutes to several months.
As long as Medivh was in control of his body, he was friendly and wise. He provided assistance to many high-ranking rulers and put the interests of the kingdom above all else. He has defended Lordaeron from attack for many years and has earned a reputation as a loyal defender of the lands. He was interested in other races and was always happy to hear stories about distant lands or peoples.
But as Sargeras took control, Medivh's personality changed dramatically. He became sullen and aloof and barely acknowledged the presence of close friends and virtually ignored outsiders. He was secretive and often suddenly broke into long trips. In private conversations, Medivh did not hesitate to get rid of visitors, using magic to kill or incapacitate them. But he understood that the leaders of Lordaeron could expose him, and in public he did not get out of his role.
Medivh's tactics were often fickle, depending on which entity was currently in control of the body. However, the general style is to stay at a distance and attack enemies with powerful spells. He often casts several spells and retreats, only to attack again later from a different position.
Status as an Eternal
Although the article does make a brief reference to his period as the legendary Oracle, it is not likely the reason for his Eternal status. The majority of the article concerned with the period when he had dual personalities where he struggled with Sargeras for control of his body, this includes the role-playing notes and combat section. It explains how others might react to his mood swings and personality changes. His abilities are also a combination of a guardian and Sargeras's abilities.
The book is also pretty clear that no new Eternals have appeared in modern times.
When Khadgar killed Medivh and destroyed the spirit of Sargeras, Medivh's spirit escaped. The spirit of Medivh foresaw the eventual downfall of Lordaeron, and with his mother's help his spirit attained form.
It should be noted Medivh considers himself no longer a human as he was before referenced by his quote in Warcraft III: "I left my humanity behind long ago. I am something...different now."

Story
Medivh is the keeper of Tirisfal, the son of Nilas Aaran, and Aegwynn. Medivh was born with an innate magical gift. From a young age, he studied books that describe everything about magic, and in practice - he used it. One day, with his father, he came to Stormwind when Llane Wrynn's father was still king. In the dead of night, Medivh, Lothar, and Llane Wrynn sneaked into the troll camp that attacked Stormwind from the east. They were able to see how the trolls sacrifice themselves to some God. By accident, Llane woke up the trolls. At the same time, he was not taken aback, and threw a hammer at their leader, who sacrificed himself. The trolls attacked the three young people. All hope was on Medivh, and Llane, through anger, ordered Medivh to use magic against the trolls. Reluctantly, Medivh used his magic to destroy almost all the trolls that were already close to them. Llane, Lothar, and Medivh managed to escape by returning to Stormwind, but in doing so, provoked the trolls into frequent and massive attacks on human settlements and Stormwind. That same night, Medivh, already on the walls of Stormwind, again proved himself, with the help of his magic, defeating almost the entire army of trolls. There was something about Medivh that made him feel furious when using magic for a long time. Made him feel unlimited power, like demons. But Medivh quickly came to his senses, and stopped using magic when the remnants of the trolls scattered through the forests.First war
Twenty years later, Medivh is informed that he will soon be visited by a young apprentice who will study with Medivh for a long time. At that time, inside Medivh was the soul of Sargeras, but at the same time, Medivh remained himself, but only was already much darker. Medivh took on an apprentice, and taught him a variety of magical arts, from nature magic to fire magic. But soon, Medivh contacted Gul'dan. And after talking with Gul'dan, Medivh allowed the orcs to pass through the Dark Portal to Azeroth, in a safe place where they would not be met by people. It was a betrayal. But unconscious.Second War
In the Second War, Medivh was already fully controlled by Sargeras. King Llane, learning of Medivh's betrayal, did not want to believe it. But Khadgar and Lothar went with a detachment to Karazhan, where they fought Medivh. Medivh was soon defeated when Khadgar stabbed Medivh through the heart, thus releasing Sargeras' soul. But Lothar prevented Sargeras from fully escaping, cutting off Medivh's head and banishing Sargeras to the Twisting Nether. But Medivh was resurrected many years later, thanks to her mother Aegwynn, who spent her powers to resurrect her son. Reborn, Medivh had a goal - the salvation of Azeroth, through his intervention. And then, he reincarnated as a prophet.
Third War
One night, Medivh appeared in a dream to Thrall, warning that a new demonic threat was coming. Thrall ran out of his house and followed the huge raven all the way to the slope above the sea. There, the raven reincarnated as the Prophet, and a conversation began. Medivh then says that he will meet with Thrall in three days. But, Medivh simply followed Thrall's gaze as he was already sailing away to the Western Lands.
A week later, Medivh flew to Lordaeron to warn King Terenas of the impending demon threat. But King Terenas did not want to listen to Medivh, and drove him away. Medivh then flew to Dalaran, warning Antonidos of the impending threat, though he didn't listen either and drove him away. Following the same, Medivh went to the young prince Arthas, saying that he should sail with his people to the western lands. But Arthas said that his place was among the people, and he would protect them, no matter what. A couple of days later, in the burned Stratholme, Medivh meets with a young sorceress - Jaina Proudmoore, who listened to the Prophet and sailed to Kalimdor.
Later, already in the cave, the Prophet pretends to be the Oracle, and meets the orcs and people together, preventing the next conflict. He informs that these two peoples must unite in order to resist the Demon army.
On this, the path of Medivh does not end, although his time has passed.
