The geyser turns off. The geyser does not turn off, I'm afraid to use
- No draft in the chimney
- Extinction of the main burner
- Other malfunctions
- Conclusion
Any Appliances, no matter how reliable it is, sooner or later it begins to attract attention with various malfunctions. In this regard, instantaneous water heaters using natural gas are no exception. After several years of their operation, some minor nuances arise that worsen the operation of the unit or cause it to turn off. Our goal is to identify all the reasons why it does not ignite geyser or extinguished during combustion.
Why does the column turn off or does not light up?
The result of any serious malfunction in the operation of a water heater is the operation of a gas valve that shuts off the fuel supply to the main burner. In some cases, the valve, on the contrary, does not open when in use. hot water and the column does not light up. This is due to the safety automatics of the device, which acts on the valve and protects against:
- intoxication of people in the room when the draft in the chimney disappears (draft sensor);
- the same consequences when the main burner goes out (flame sensor);
- explosion of the gas-air mixture after shutting off and resuming the gas supply, as well as due to a drop in its pressure in the network (gas valve).
Automation means that stop the operation of the heater are installed on all dispensers without exception in accordance with regulatory requirements. However, in more advanced devices, additional automation has been introduced, whose task is to increase operating comfort and protect the heat exchanger and pipes from damage. Their malfunctions or operation can also be the reason why the geyser goes out. The list of these automation tools is as follows:
- electronic ignition from batteries or a hydrogenerator;
- a water unit responsible for turning on and stopping the device at a certain pressure in the water supply;
- protection against overheating of the heat exchanger (temperature sensor);
- valve for dumping the steam-water mixture in case of boiling.
Now that we have identified all the elements that can stop the heating of water or prevent the column from turning on, let's move on to the reasons that lead to this.
No draft in the chimney
As a rule, the presence of this reason leads to the fact that the column will go out during operation. Finding it is very simple: a lit match or stick must be brought to the viewing slot located on the front panel.
When everything is in order, the flame of the match is drawn inward, this is clearly visible to the naked eye. If the flame does not move, we proceed to the second stage: we disconnect the chimney from the shaft opening and repeat the check by bringing a match to this hole. Still no traction? There can be two reasons:
- the vertical shaft is blocked by foreign objects or clogged with soot;
- in the room where the heater is located, there is no air supply, and without it there is no exhaust and the column goes out.
I must say that the first reason occurs infrequently. And it cannot happen that for many years there was craving, and then suddenly disappeared. Unless someone deliberately threw garbage into the mine. Soot builds up gradually on the inner walls and makes itself felt by some decrease in traction, especially in the middle of summer. But, before calling the stove-makers to inspect the exhaust shaft, you need to make sure that fresh air enters the room.
It happens that the flow heater goes out when the old wooden windows in the house were replaced with metal-plastic ones. As a result, the air flow from the street is blocked and the draft disappears.
You can determine the absence of inflow as follows: repeat the operation with a match with the window open. If the draft has appeared, it is required to organize normal air exchange in the room, do not sit all the time with the windows open.
It also happens that there is draft in the mine, but not at the viewing window of the column. So, the reason lies in the gas-air path of the device. Usually these are heat exchanger fins clogged with soot that practically do not allow air to pass through and the unit does not operate in normal mode. And the last reason associated with the chimney is the failure of the draft sensor. To replace it, as well as to clean the heat exchanger, it is better to invite a specialist.
Extinction of the main burner
The flame of the main burner is very rarely extinguished by external factors. This happens when, under the influence of strong gusts of wind, the draft in the mine increases sharply or overturns. Then the flame breaks off and the burner goes out. But most often, such causes of malfunctions occur due to a drop in gas or water pressure, which causes the valve to turn off the fuel supply. One of the reasons is the clogging of the mesh filters installed on the gas and water pipes. They should be cleaned periodically.
Sometimes a paradoxical situation arises when the water pressure can be normal and the column turns on properly when the tap in the bathroom is opened. If you open the hot water in the kitchen, then nothing happens. The reason is banal: the mesh built into the spout of the kitchen faucet is clogged.
With a constant flow through the heat exchanger of water of increased hardness and heating it to high temperature scale is intensively deposited on the inner walls of the pipes. The flow area quickly “overgrows”, the water pressure drops, as a result of which the gas column does not heat the water.
The burner device may turn off if the water unit does not work correctly. A worn out diaphragm begins to let water through and in order to create a push force on the rod, more and more water pressure is required. Meanwhile, in the water supply network, it is constant, and therefore there is not enough effort. The disease is treated by buying a repair kit and replacing the diaphragm along with the spring and other elements.
Other malfunctions
One of the simplest malfunctions due to which the flow heater with automatic ignition does not turn on is dead batteries. The estimated battery life is 1 year, but it happens that their charge ends earlier, it depends on the quality of the products. Ignition from a hydrogenerator implies the presence of a certain water pressure in the system, and if it is not there, then the unit will not start again.
Sometimes pops occur in the combustion chamber, which is caused by a clogged igniter jet. The flame on it becomes weak and a higher concentration of gas is needed to ignite the burner. When it is reached, there is already quite a lot of fuel in the chamber and cotton occurs. The presence of a weak yellow light on the igniter indicates that the jet needs to be cleaned.
In some situations related to water overheating, the gas valve is triggered by a temperature sensor command. The column ignites after the heat exchanger has cooled down. Here you need to consult a specialist, because you need to understand the causes of overheating. In addition, operation in extreme mode leads to the operation safety valve water is constantly dripping from it.
Conclusion
The reasons for the attenuation of the gas column are conventionally divided into 2 groups: those that can be eliminated on their own, and others that require the intervention of a master. It is always recommended to invite him when the issue concerns the breakdown of expensive internal parts of the device.
Reason #1. Bites the gas valve stem.
Pretty rare bug. Checked like this. You have to remove the water from the column gas unit. We separate the water and gas parts.
It is clear that when the tap is opened hot water, the membrane bends and shifts the stem of the water unit, which, in turn, presses on the stem of the gas unit. The microswitch is activated, the control unit gives a spark and opens the gas to the burner with a solenoid valve. When the hot water tap is closed, the gas supply is interrupted purely mechanically by the spring of the gas unit. The membrane returns, the microswitch opens, but the gas unit stem does not return to its original "closed" position. And the control unit does not close the solenoid valve, since the burner flame continues to heat the flame presence sensor.
Before us is a disassembled gas unit.
See which spring returns the gas valve stem to its original "closed" position when the water tap is closed. The column should turn off purely mechanically
anyway. If this does not happen, the rod should move with great difficulty. We do so. We simply press manually, for example, with a screwdriver, on the stem of the gas unit and
we look. If the stem moves very hard, - advice - just replace the gas unit. Quickly and immediately. The fact is that the material of the node itself does not allow carrying out all sorts of
"strong" actions. And usually it either cracks or falls apart in the hands. Therefore, we change the gas unit to a new one and that's it.

The people, the column stopped working today, I turned it off for now. I washed in the bathroom, turned off the water, but the gas did not turn off! Well, out of fear, I quickly opened the water, then when I got out, I manually turned off the gas.
Now I'm wondering what's the problem? Maybe there is a small defect, to fix it yourself or not?

If the gas did not shut off when the water stopped working, this is most likely a gas valve defect. The breakdown is serious, here it is necessary to call the master of the gasman in any way. I do not advise you to climb into it, as it is a serious matter.

If the gas does not turn off when the water is blocked, it is dangerous! Such a breakdown can lead to sad consequences, consider yourself lucky. And how old is this column, such malfunctions are generally rare, especially if it is no more than 5 years old.
Manufacturers usually foresee the dangers of work gas equipment.

Urgently to the master, and before that, do not turn it on, I will block it! Such a serious breakdown can lead to the most unpredictable consequences, up to an explosion. This gas shut-off valve is out of order, if you work with such a malfunction, sooner or later trouble will happen. Do not tempt fate - call the master.

Repair of gas equipment must be carried out by an organization with which an agreement has been concluded for the maintenance of in-house gas equipment for you as a homeowner (if a private house) or at management company serving apartment house(if we are talking about an apartment).
Self-repair and replacement of gas-consuming equipment is strictly prohibited. And it’s simply dangerous when a non-professional climbs with playful little hands to the equipment, if it is improperly repaired and operated, a fire or a gas explosion can occur!
