Scheme
At the beginning of the construction of a carport, you need to prepare drawings, mark the proposed parking area on suburban area, level it, remove the top layer of the earth by 30-45 cm. Most often it is poured concrete base on a gravel pad, which can be reinforced with one or two contours of a reinforcing mesh. You can use regular compacted gravel. Also, the parking lot is laid out with paving stones or tiles. When pouring the base, embedded parts are immediately mounted into it, to which the support pillars will be attached. Wood frame assembly
To create the simplest, lightest, most durable canopy, it is most convenient to use a wooden frame. What details will be needed for the construction of the canopy, the design drawing will show.
To do this, you need to purchase boards from solid durable woods. Of course, larch is the strongest and most resistant to precipitation material, which only increases its strength characteristics from moisture.
But larch is an expensive material, so for a more economical solution, you can use pine or spruce boards that need more thorough treatment with protective impregnations and antiseptics.
In our case, we install a canopy attached to the wall of the building. It is easier to make such a structure on your own, because part of the structure relies on the house. For the device of the frame, places are marked for the installation of supports, or they are mounted in already installed embedded parts. Slots for mounting horizontal beams must be pre-prepared on the supports. Supports located near the wall are additionally fixed to it with a screwdriver. Supports are installed opposite each other, first on one side, then on the opposite side. The number of supports and the pitch between them depends on the length of the vehicle.
After you have checked the vertical and the correspondence of the heights of the supports, you can proceed to laying a horizontal beam on them. Fasteners are pre-mounted to both beams to fix the crate at the same distance from each other.
The first beam is laid on the supports in the grooves from the side of the wall and checked by the level for the horizontal.
Then it is fixed to the wall and supports with anchor bolts. On the opposite side, the beam will additionally be held by spacers (see photo), which are attached to the supports at one end and to the beam at the other. For these works, a screwdriver will be the best assistant.
Horizontal cross-beams of the crate are laid on the beams. They are fixed to the beams by means of fasteners.
The crossbars on the outside should go out beyond the beams by 10-15 cm.
For additional strength, pairs of extreme beams are connected by additional spacers.
The result should be a strong stable frame. At the end, the protruding ends of the crossbars are closed with boards.

Canopy structure
Our canopy has dimensions of about 900x750 cm. The plane of each will be about 500x750 cm. In general, this is 1000x750 cm, i.e. 75 m2 of total area.
Concrete pillars with a diameter of about 300 mm will perfectly cope with the function of supports for such a canopy. Each of these supports is able to withstand an average of 1 ton of weight. In practice, this value is even more impressive, but we will believe the approved standards.
We multiply the total area of roofing slopes by the value of the snow load for our region, add the weight of the roof itself to the result, divide the calculated number by 1000 kg and find that about 7.5 pillars must be installed to ensure proper stability of a canopy of this size. We surround in a big way, i.e. up to 8. As a result, we will install a support at the corners of the canopy and one rack in the center of each span.
We will immerse the supports to a depth of about 1.2 m. With such a foundation, the canopy will definitely not fail.
Prices for various types of timber
We build a canopy: step by step instructions
First step. We make recesses for the installation of supports. A drill with a diameter of 30 cm will help us with this. It is better to use an automated drilling rig - drilling more than a meter deep manually is long and difficult. Along the way, we get stones and other interfering objects that come across on our way.
Second step. The grooves are ready. We make formwork for poles from special paper pipes - they are sold in modern hardware stores. As a result, the pipes will form beautiful columns 30-50 cm high above the ground.
Third step.. The easiest way is to buy ready-made dry mix in bags and dilute it with water in accordance with the instructions.
Fourth step. We fill the columns. We insert brackets into fresh concrete for further fixing wooden racks with a section of 15x15 cm.
Fifth step. We carry out a cut of a bar and boards according to the sizes of elements of our canopy. Everything is perfectly visible in the photos.
Sixth step. We install and fix the support posts on concrete pillars. It is recommended to do this no earlier than 3-4 weeks after pouring.
Seventh step. We fasten to the vertical racks of the board of the upper carrier strapping. To do this, we use a double board 30 cm wide and 4 cm thick. An ordinary raw board will do - it will be under the roof and bad weather will not harm the wood in any way.
To connect the boards to the beam, we use bolts with a diameter of 1 cm with a minimum of 20 mm and washers.
Seventh step. We add a second load-bearing board to the main pillars and tighten all structural elements with bolts. We make braces from 10x10 cm columns.
Eighth step. Assembling roof trusses. For their manufacture, a board 10 cm wide and 4 cm thick is suitable. The design is standard and looks like a triangle. For greater rigidity, we fix intermediate veins from a bursa or board inside the triangle. Farms are more convenient to assemble on the ground, and then attach them to the harness already in finished form.
Ninth step. We sheathe the installed trusses with a board. The recommended skin thickness is 1.2 cm.
tenth step. We cover the roof with metal tiles or other material at our discretion. Must first be attached to the crate
Eleventh step. We sew up the gables of the roof of our canopy with siding, clapboard or other material of your choice. If desired, we can attach crossbars to the vertical supports and sheathe the entire canopy - this moment remains at the discretion of the owner.

We install a drainage system
It will be plastic.
Important note! Plastic is subject to thermal expansion. To compensate for deformations, a movable joint must be made every 8 m of the pipe length. If you are going to fix the drain with adhesive sealant, every 8 m make a connection on a rubber seal. This will be enough to compensate for temperature deformations.
We will mount the system so that the receiving hole is at the bottom of the roof slope of our canopy. We select the side of the roof, focusing on the location of the ditch for receiving wastewater.
First step. We attach the hooks-holders. We mount the gutter with a slope in the direction of the water inlet. To ensure the required inclination of the gutter, we use hook-holders. We mount them with a minimum of 0.5 cm slope for each meter of the length of the drainage structure. The markings for installing hooks are performed as follows:
- we find the lower or upper point of the storm drain for mounting the outer bracket. The end brackets are installed at a distance of 100 mm from the edges of the water intake;
- knowing the required length of the system, we retreat from the extreme point a distance equal to 0.5 mm multiplied by the total length of the gutter in meters. We mark the second point;
- we stretch the rope between two marks and fasten the hooks, focusing on it;
we mount hooks with a half-meter step.
Second step. We adjust the length of the pipe. Cut off the excess with a hacksaw. We clean the shavings with a sharp knife. We saw off so that during the cutting process the geometry of the pipe section is not violated.
Third step. We install the pipe on the hooks. If we use plastic hooks, first insert the rear edge of our gutter into the recess on the fastener, and then lower the front edge of the pipe and press. As a result, the gutter will snap into place and simply lock into place.
When installing on metal fasteners, first lay the gutter on the fasteners and bend the flexible petals so that they cover the pipe.
Fourth step. Installing the funnel. We cut a hole in the right place of the gutter and apply a funnel to it from below. We will fix it with glue. To do this, we first clean the surfaces, generously apply the binder to the joining elements, wait for the mixture to dry, and then coat the additional seam.
Important! It can only be glued with special compounds for PVC.
Fifth step. We collect pipes and elbows into a single drainage system. With the help of knees, we can set the desired direction of our pipe. At the joints of pipes and elbows, we install an additional mounting clamp.
Directly connecting pipes and elbows is done with glue. Its use has been discussed above. We mount the pipe holders with a step of 2 m.
In conclusion, all that remains for us is to sew up the gables of the roof of the canopy with siding, clapboard or other material of our choice. If desired, we can attach crossbars to the vertical supports and sheathe the entire canopy - this moment remains at the discretion of the owner.
The canopy is ready. We can accept it for permanent operation.

How to make a polycarbonate canopy for a car with your own hands?
According to the standards, the size of the canopy should be 1-2 meters wide, and 1 meter longer than the dimensions of the car. If two cars are supposed to be placed under the building, then 1 meter on each side and 0.8 meters between them is added to the sum of the widths of the two cars.
The optimal height of a polycarbonate building is 2.2-2.5 meters. A taller structure will not protect the vehicle from rain or snow.
Preparation of materials
To build a canopy with your own hands you will need:
- Bearing arch. If you have a pipe bender, you can make it yourself. If there is no such tool, then the elements necessary in size can be ordered from a construction company.
- Profile pipe for lathing with a section of 40x20 mm.
- Profile pipe for runs with a section of 60x40 or 60x60 mm.
- Profile pipe of square section for supporting posts with a section of 80x80 mm, 100x100 mm, 60x60 mm.
- Crushed stone or cement-sand mixture.
- Press washers.
- Galvanized screws.
- Anchor bolts. They will be needed if the structure is installed on a hard surface.
- Cellular polycarbonate 10 mm thick.
When making an arched canopy with your own hands, you need to keep in mind that its slope angle should be more than 10 degrees.
Stages of work
First of all, support bars are installed on the site. The distance between their axes should be equal to the width of the roof minus 240 mm. The step between them depends on climatic conditions. If large snow loads are expected, then this distance should be 1-1.5 m.
Do-it-yourself rack installation:
- Dig holes with a depth of 50-150 cm and a diameter of at least 150 mm.
- In the resulting holes install the racks and check their verticality using the building level.
- Fill the posts with concrete or fill them with broken bricks, gravel or crushed stone and fix with sand-cement mortar (1: 3).
- For about three days, the solution must be periodically watered. During this time, he will stand up and gain the desired hardness.
- After three days, connect the racks around the perimeter and across the width of the roof with horizontal beams.
- Assemble the rest of the structure, which includes the crate and arcuate profile pipes. For fixing them to load-bearing beams vertical spacers should be used.
- The step between the elements of the crate should be 70 cm, the distance between the arches should be up to 1 meter.
You can install the canopy frame using bolted connections or welding.
Installation of polycarbonate sheets
For mounting on a canopy, blanks are made, the length of which should be equal to the length of the arch plus 100-150 mm. Sheets can be cut circular saw blades for aluminum without removing the protective film. The material is laid with a film outside, since it is it that protects from ultraviolet rays.
Work order.
- Attach the lower parts of the docking profile to the arches. The distance between the elements should be equal to the pitch of the layout of the polycarbonate sheets.
- Drill holes in the blanks between the stiffening ribs, the diameter of which should be 2 mm larger than the mounting dimensions of the press washers.
- Remove the protective film from the ends of the sheet by 50 mm and insert the panels to be connected approximately 20 mm into the H-profile. In this case, a gap of 5 mm must be left between the sheets.
- Insert washers into the holes obtained, screw in the screws and fix the polycarbonate blanks with them. Put caps on the heads of the self-tapping screws.
- After the two sheets have been attached, the cover of the docking profile must be closed. For this on top of her should be tapped with a wooden mallet, and from below to hold with an emphasis. This operation must be repeated with all polycarbonate sheets.
The edges of the honeycombs of the installed material can be closed with an end profile. For reliable fastening, glue or small self-tapping screws are used.
The cut edges of polycarbonate can be closed with a special protective aluminum tape.
